This is an outstanding musical accomplishment and one of my favorite releases. The music is soulful, heart wrenching, winsome, humorous, nostalgic, but above all else it is authentic. Sam's voice is unique but as authentic as the lyrics. I have been to some of the places mentioned, traveled the same roads and the lyrics take be back to those places where I can see someone else's story occurring there. For example, Thursday takes me to a burger pace off the interstate in Waco and the story moves me to tears. I can see the entire scene through Sam's writing. It isn't typical country music, but music about real people, people I feel I know. In that way it is more like folk music, but visually detailed in the telling. Sam Baker has an amazing gift for singing and songwriting. I am not a fan of country or folk, but this album is too good to ignore. It hits all the right spots.
