Great album by these 2 legends. Flut (flood in English) is a compilation of improvisations where Jaki keeps the rhythm in a direct and simple way, never far-fetched, so that Jochen improvises on the organ in an honest way and without academic trappings. If what you're looking for is some improvised jazz or compositions, you won't find any of that here. Everything is urgent, in the most genuine spirit of Can or Faust, risky, with hardly any consideration for the results. Doubtful, neurotic, critical. No pretentious poses. This is what happened.referencing Flut (CD, Album) KLANGBAD 65
Hans Joachim Irmler & Jaki Liebezeit - Flut (2014)
An album by two legends of Krautrock that seemingly came out unnoticed and promptly disappeared into obscurity. It's not so surprising really, as Hans Joachim Irmler's solo debut never made much of a splash. In theory an album by these two could have been amazing, that is if they'd took some time to compose and arrange stuff and did some involved session work, but that's not the case. FLUT is all very basic duo improvisations, with Joachim on his distorted keyboards and Jaki on percussion, with each track just flowing without any thought for composition or progression. This is okay for one track, but when the second track does little different apart from change the speed, it all gets rather samey. Okay if that's all you're after I guess. But ultimately I found it irritating.
