i was a teen. I didn't fit in. I hung around with kids who are now professors or reclusive and then I hear this album, and i finally realize that no...no no...we're actually the ones in on the joke, and Laurie is speaking directly to us. A near perfect recording and a great pressing from this world...no other.

Another edition of this mind blowing recording is an excellent digital transfer.

An exceptional recording and an exceptional CD. Having owned this edition since early 90's, it has always been a reference standard, both for sound quality and artistry.

Excellent recording, mastering, digital transfer, and birds. No issues with this edition, to be sure.

One of the most sublime listening experiences I've ever had. So many interesting sounds and an amazing soundstage. If I wanted to 'wow' someone with my system, this is the record I would use.

Amazing copy. Famously quiet Japanese pressing, dynamic, deep bass and incredible soundstage.

Come on why is this album so cheap. It’s far and away one of the finest albums ever considered avantgarde and the list of top notch musicians playing it out should make it essential for fans of anyone who plays on it. Great recording to boot.

Demonstration quality sound. Some really striking effects, and great soundstage.

Laurie Anderson, the undisputed queen of the avant garde, perhaps only equaled by Brian Eno, and who took the movement a step further by tuning her musical work into performance pieces, was riding the crest of the wave. Mr. Heartbreak, coming on the heels of her acclaimed Big Science and her live performance presentation of [/i]United States Live,”[/i] was being embraced my a huge following, all fueled by perhaps one of the most strange movie I have ever seen, “Liquid Sky,” which incorporated a sound track that could have easily been taken from the cutting room floor of one of Laurie’s recording sessions.

Here, Laurie Anderson with her plexiglas violin in hand, continues her electronic saga with this incredible score. Mr. Heartbreak could be loosely considered a conceptual piece, though a string of events may be more accurate, regarding the day in a life of someone, anyone ... Laurie, you, I or perhaps even the person’s vacation we read about, hastily scribbled on the back of a postcard we were to find blowing down the street. From a seemly small insignificant event, Laurie Anderson has managed to weave what would seem to be a life time of events into a musical story. The songs “Sharkey’s Day” and “Sharkey’s Night” frame this sort of montage day, turning it into a reality of sorts. Mr. Heartbreak is simply one of the most beautiful scores I have heard, and with William Burroughs adding a sparkle that lets you know it’s for real ... or at least as real as I am ever going to see it.

The music is definitely in and of the time (that being the early 1980’s), and thought that sound can certainly be fused to that era, it all still manages to sound fresh and clean, almost able to stand outside of its time, and is always a good listen. Laurie has a live performance DVD of several of her concerts, and they are all a worth while adventure; certainly helping to give a contextual flow and overview of her work, which must be viewed as much as seen. But therein lies the nature of performance work, and the drawback to simply listening to the music from those pieces.

You know how some things are just so perfectly right and pure, that they bring a smile to your face that almost embarrasses your soul with all of its purity well, that pretty much sums up this release with all of its splendor and touching warmth.

*** It's worthy to note that this outing floats in sounding much more refined and produced than Big Science did, and while I would not have suggested that Laurie create a Big Science II, as that would have been impossible, and who wants an artist to step backwards, there's something about Mr. Heartbreak that for me, indicated that this might just be my last adventure with Ms. Anderson. I say this because Mr. Heartbreak lacks the unfeathered whimsy of Big Science, it's more scripted, as if Anderson was far too aware that she had something to live up to.

My version says made in USA on both the CD and the inlay. Also, the bar code and cat# match this version, as well as the copyright date.
I think the "West Germany (Target CD)" field should be removed.
