- Edited 9 years agoOne of the best soundtrack for a movie that has been recorded in history. A Masterpiece.
New York Times called it "Extraordinary" back in 1984. Missed to be awarded as Best Soundtrack at the Academy Awards because it was not formally submitted for Oscar consideration…
The compositions were ready before Sergio Leone started shooting the movie. It is a soundtrack that goes very well with the movie as the musicians involved in the production, they were playing live for the actors while the movie was being shot. Unique and amazing.
The music was already composed about a decade prior to the release of the soundtrack.
Pieces like "Cockeye's Song" with Gheorghe Zamfir panfulte or the main theme song "Once Upon A Time In America" they are unforgettable.
In my opinion one his best soundtracks ever composed by legendary Ennio Morricone for a movie.
The rearrangements of "Amapola" they are very well suited for the movie. The great scene with a young Jennifer Connelly dancing in the back of her family grocery store while a young "Noodle" is watching her from a small hole in the wall.
"Deborah's Theme" variation of "Friendship & Love" they sound similar; it is a beautiful string composition completed by the haunting voice of Edda Dell'Orso.
The soundtrack include some jazzy tunes, and they are very well done too. "Prohibition Dirge" is a very funny tune as it start with a sad trumpet and evolve in this happy ragtime jump blues style with solo clarinet and trumpet, and trombone. Then "Speakeasy" also recall the 30's.
This remaster release also includes unheard music found in the old tapes recorded for the movie back in 1984.
If you buy the soundtrack you should also watch the movie. It will make a big difference. As it is one of the 10 best movies in the history of film. In my opinion.
