Born in 1971, I was 12 when this album came out, my elder brother(he was 19) bought it, and one day or rather evening, he asked my other brother(15) and I to come in his bedroom, shut the light off so we were in the complete dark, and played "Armenia", to give us a kind of ...psycho-sensory experience. It was! I killed them both...just kidding. Not right after this night but 2/3 years later, I became a huge fan and used to draw the logo everywhere. Such an incredible band!

Neubautens overall ouvre is monumental and unique. This is by far the best album in their early work.

love this album but bought an american reissue - big mistake - fidelity is just NOT there - so important with einsturzende neubauten ... I recommend original german releases

Do yourself a favor and look up Oswald Tschirtner and his work. His drawings are extremely eerie and you can tell he's communicating from a very twisted, schizophrenic mind. If Neubauten were aiming to take the feeling of his art and translate it to music, they hit the nail on the head. This record is full of many bizarre and surreal moments that don't sound like they were made by sane people.

It says this is remastered for CD, does that mean that this is only CD quality?
What is the best quality/definitive pressing of this release?
And the page of the 2002 Potomak remaster on vinyl says that it was remastered for CD, so would I be right in assuming that this would be a bad one to get?
Also for the 1984 US pressing, is the extra LP completely unreleased in any other form?

As far as earlier Neubauten material goes, and overall with my current tastes, this album is definitally one of their best. It has all the intensity of Kollaps but is more refined and focused; they started to become more cohesive. But at the same time is chaotic enough and even more sinister and haunting in a lot of ways. The atmosphere created is quite literally, as mentioned in the other review, INSANE. Highlights are Armania, (a stable the band still plays live today), Abfakeln!, Neun Arme, the title track, Falschgeld, and the ending track 'Die genaue Zeit'
The bonus tracks are very cool too. DNS Wasserturm especially is a sweet trip, recorded inside of an abandoned watertower, the echo is nasty cool, as are the bizzare vocals, that tell the story of a dream Blixa had about how he cut his hand in the garden and his dna started to wash out of him.
not reccomended for newcomers necessarily, but for a seasoned Neubauten listener, Zeichnungen des Patienten O.T. is easily a standout piece.

Chilling discordant splings and splangs lead into throbbing percussion and occassionally compliment it in conjunction with strained german vocals that evolve into chants.
Nice.
Jarring disorientating. Vocals guide you through a dimly lit hospital corridor you stuggle to navigate on account of being fed too much medication.
A short and not so sweet voyage into insanity, ever wondered what it sounds like in the mind of a man restrained by a straightjacket, confined to a padded cell? Hear this and you might understand why anyone would ever have to do such a nasty thing.
Machines are at work here; throbbing alien probes?
Your dance to this are the spasms of someone dying from over exposure to insect poison!
A very, very cool cd.
