Dusty Springfield – A Brand New Me

Great record if you are fan of Dusty in Memphis.. a great addition to your Dusty collection!.

A really nice recording- essentially Dusty meets Gamble and Huff. Enjoyable-

It's definitely from the 8 multi track tapes .... Not the greatest mix in the world. The tape sounds warble then the original... Dusty is loud in the new miix well everything is loud .... It's a DR 9 which isn't bad .... But it's far from a DR 12 . I don't know there's warble in the multi track tape probably due to the machine during the transfer and the remix engineer I'm not sure what he did to this mix... It's like he just put up the meters added reverb and just let it roll ... Horns distorting everywhere ... There's no dynamics it's all one sound remixed ... It's just splat ... The multi's for Memphis are gone the only change that I heard with mastering was the 2017 LP that Bellman did that I like a lot and a lot don't .

A very nice album recorded in Philly 1970. Maybe not a classic like her Memphis album but good anyway.

Wow this is a very interesting release. At first I had a hard time believing that this was remixed from Atlantic 8 track tapes. If anyone knows there was a Atlantic Records fire 40 years ago where all the multi track tapes were kept. But listening to this with headphones. Did and HOW did the multi track tapes survive and where were they ? Cause the mix on this is radically different. I was thinking this was rough mixes. But I don't think so. I'm not sure what the dynamic range is on this. But it's below a 10. It's a bit loud. But forget that. This is a revelation in a way. It does sound like the tapes existed and it was remixed. There's all these new sounds coming from everywhere in a new very well placed way. And you really can hear different elements that were mixed out of the original. Plus it's clearer than the original. Dusty sounds like she's really there as everything. When I played this on stereo speakers I didn't hear this. It's amazing how you can change your opinion with a 50 dollar pair of Sennheiser headphones. I wish they could find In Memphis !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We haven't heard a remix on that yet.
