REALLY great sounding pressing. If you love this album, you are really going to enjoy the clarity here. Also contains PEACE TRAIN which was removed, and features Peter Buck of R.E.M. referencing In My Tribe (LP, Album, Stereo, ARC) 9 60738-1
An absolute triumph of an album. The songwriting and lyrics are incredibly powerful and well crafted. The evolution of this band from The Wishing Chair is remarkable. For any first timer, this is the album you have to hear.- I owned a NM original copy from 87 and sold it after comparing it to this pressing. I’m an analog guy, but I found the original muddy and generally underwhelming in dynamics. Digital or no, this Mofi pressing has a much wider soundstage, better separation, and is much more engaging. Natalie’s vocals sound much clearer, and instrument presentation is substantially cleaner. Of course, YMMV.

A set packed full of great eclectic jangle folk/rock, charmingly catchy songs with great hooks & beautiful melodies displaying a fine pop sensibility & meaningful lyrics about difficult issues. A very accessible listenable album & the band’s best LP.
One of the great pop gems of the 80’s.- Edited one year agoExcellent pressing.
Great soundstage, imaging, detail, etc.
This is on The Absolute Sounds Super LP list of 2019 for exceptional sound quality.
VPI / Soundsmith - A fantastic album by a fantastic group of musicians. When this album came out there was nothing really like it in main stream. Great songs great vocals and the musicians are all top notch. Love it

This was their peak, and if it doesn't quite rise to the level of masterpiece, it is at least a good album. Merchant has finally found a workable voice and has gained confidence in her delivery. The band gels nicely here, coming up with a variety of atmospheric moods and textures, almost all of it hummable. Merchant's social conscience side is showing but it hadn't yet overwhelmed the music as it would on later releases; enough balance is kept that it is the songs that shine. Merchant and Michael Stipe became an item for awhile around the time of this album, and In My Tribe works pretty well as R.E.M.-lite.- Late 80’s sheeny production values and cringeworthy lyrics, but who didn’t have a crush on Natalie Merchant in high school, or at least before she became a militant vegan. Bah, who am I kidding? I still dig her! Wonder what happened to the other 9,999 maniacs?

Identical mastering to the 1987 originals, despite being listed as a reissue and not a repress.- Edited 3 years ago

One of the finest sounding alt. folk or Americana albums you will ever get the chance to hear. I bought this album originally back in 1988 and those first two tracks literally burst out of your speakers. It's just so well recorded and jangly in a Byrds type manner. Of course you have the REM connection with both Natalie/ Stipe and Robert Buck's guitar style, but this music is so spiritually uplifting.
No I'm not a religious person but this does make your soul smile.
The track called " The Painted Desert" is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard especially that final chorus when Natalie's voice echoes to itself, that's so good.
So a big thumbs up on this one plus it's a Doug Sax TML effort, a measure of quality to me. I lost my original vinyl to copy many years ago and bought a remastered complete album CD replica box set but it sounds horrible, way too trebly and thin. So I've just bought myself a nm copy of the 1988 UK vinyl to replace my lost copy.
Can't wait for it to arrive and relive that simple pleasure of this beautifully recorded album.
