Placebo – Meds

Sounds like the layers of sound are fighting each other. The result is a thin compressed record that sounds awful. I’m returning my copy.

If you want a silent record though it offers that. But that’s it.

Just bought this at my local record store brand new & I absolutely do not understand the hate in these comments. Record sounds really great, no static, & dynamics do pop. Does not sound muddy at all. As far as the actual album it is my fave by Placebo. Setup: Thornes TD 115 Turntable, Ortofon 2M Blue Verso Cart, Magnavox Tube Power Amp, McIntosh C24 Pre-Amp, Marantz Code 30/300 Speakers

One of the worst sounding records in my collection. If at the beginning of the sides the sound is still "acceptable", then by the end of the side it is simply impossible to listen to.

I really want to be the one to say everyone's wrong but... I have two copies of this hot translucent pink variant and although it's one of the prettiest in my collection... They both sound real bad... Some songs sound muffled but mainly all of the songs have so much noise and pops and etc... No skips or scratches but this is far from a clean listen. I received the second one today and thought this story was gonna have a redemption arc but nope. Exactly the same. Don't let this keep you from getting it as it's super super pretty and the misses on this one do not reflect the quality of the other Placebo colored variants... Others like WYIN in yellow are perfection.

Got it for 9,99€ on Amazon, that’s why I bought it, to me it’s the last very good album from them. For the record itself, not so bad, few pops specially on the first track but nothing serious, sounds very warm to me. Needs a very deep clean though, lots of particules on the record.

Doesn't sound much different from the CD, which is unfortunately very loud. Looks great though I'm glad I've bought it

Don't get me wrong this isn't the best sounding record in my collection, it struggles at the start of side A for those dynamics and sounds slightly flat. But it does recover remarkably well and is actually very clean and warm with very low noise levels on the vinyl itself and very few clicks so in the end very worthwhile pickup. For reference I'm playing through a LP120x and a pair of Ruark MR1 Mk2s so hardly world beating equipment but I think some of these reviews make it out like this is the worst pressing known to mankind which is certainly not the case.

Facing all the negative reviews for the different vinyl releases of this album (which is in my opinion their best up to date) I really never wanted to buy it… and today I‘m so glad that I dit it anyway!

My pressing sounds absolutely flawless. Vinyl is flat, centered and has no surface noise at all. Dead wax is dead quiet as it should be. The soft passages sound rich and warm. And to all those complaining about the harshness of the dynamic parts, especially the highs: folks, this is how the band wants the music to sound like! Every single Placebo album had that specific sound signature. Everyone who saw them live already will agree that their live sound is exactly the same: the dynamic parts are brutal, harsh, noisy and sometimes even hurting. But that is just their signature sound. No need to blame the pressing quality, that‘s obviously the mastering how the band wants it to be.

So, to all the fans loving this album: buy and enjoy! And a my personal advice to the hifi nerds among us: Placebo vinyl sounds much smoother and warmer when using a Shibata stylus. Makes a huge difference, believe me ;-)

Just bought this album, it’s the first album I heard from Placebo and is still my favourite even after I listened to all the others so I had to get this one on vinyl. Plus, my favorite song from the band is there at the end of side A (because I want you).
Now I was just about to add this to my Discogs collection when I read the 3 reviews here and I got scared like hell... I almost did not want to open and play the record... but I did... so I cleaned it and put it on... at high volume with my headphones (ATH-M40x)!
And to my surprise, it was not as terrible as I was expecting from the reviews here.
Actually, it was more or less what I would have expected. Some tics here and there and maybe a little distortion here and there (which is kind of the sound they wanted to create I believe) but otherwise very enjoyable and very happy with my purchase in the end!!
