Notes

Smash is the third studio album by American punk rock band The Offspring. After touring in support of their previous album, Ignition (1992), The Offspring began recording Smash in January 1994 at Track Record in North Hollywood, California. Recording and production were finished a month later, and the album was released on April 8, 1994 on Epitaph Records.

In the United States, Smash has sold over six million copies, and has been certified 6× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Peaking at number four on the US Billboard 200, it has sold over 11 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling independent label album of all time. It was also the first album released on Epitaph Records to obtain gold and platinum status. Smash was The Offspring's introduction into worldwide popularity and critical acclaim, and produced a number of hit singles including "Come Out and Play", "Self Esteem" and "Gotta Get Away". Alongside Bad Religion's Stranger than Fiction, Green Day's Dookie, NOFX's Punk In Drublic and Rancid's ...And Out Come the Wolves, Smash was responsible for bringing punk rock into the mainstream, and helped pave the way for the emerging pop punk scene in the 1990s. As a fan-favorite, the album received generally positive reviews from critics and garnered attention from major labels, including Columbia Records, with whom The Offspring would sign in 1996. Smash is the only release where the band was referred to as "Offspring".

Does anyone have information on the variant that was sold at the 30th anniversary Smash show on June 1?

Classic album and sounds amazing! Been playing this non-stop since I picked it up. I listened to the CD as a teen all the time. I'm glad that I finally got this on vinyl.

As others have stated, this is not the greatest sounding version of this album. I don't complain a whole lot because it is not an "essential" album for me, and I also picked my copy up pretty cheap. Looks good on display, though!
Honestly, side B is better than side A. The highs are just too harsh on side A and it causes audible sibilance throughout (more like inner groove distortion, but not just during the inner grooves). Definitely not audiophile quality, but probably decent to play when the music is not the main focus (like as background music at a party, while working out, doing chores, etc.).

I'm listening to this after a few years ago I kind of thought it sucked. I have better gear now. And it sounds really good. I love it.

Fantastic reissue, I also think that this does sound excellent! Crisp, clear and dynamic, no surface noise. I used to listen the hell out of this on a cassette back in the day, so I'm very glad to have picked this up on vinyl now.

I got this dirt cheap on Amazon, I don't really understand what all the noise is about that it "sounds horrible".......sounds fine to me. I wish I still had my OG copy of this to compare, long sold........but who knew. Other than that, pretty quiet between tracks, the vocals are really crisp.

After months of apprehension and avoiding this album, I decided to expand my collection of Offspring discs and I bought the cd. I thought I wasn't going to like it but I actually had a good time listening to it. The lyrics and music alike are considerably darker than anything else that followed this album. I also enjoyed the quotations of "Change the world" in "Genocide" and "Pay the Man" during the "Come out and play" repreeze. Dexter's trademark whine is most obvious in this album, more than any other, and his lyrics cover a variety of ranges: road rage, drug abuse, war, and self-destruction just to name a few. It's quite good but a tough act to follow, especially if you play Conspiracy of One or Splinter immediately after this disc.

Not really great sounding record. I expected to have better version than original CD, but this is not much improved. It's ok, but don't pay much for this one.

The original CD is super compressed and this vinyl reissue sounds basically the same as the CD, if not worse.
Apart from that some surface noise, very low level.
