Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson, The Midnight Band – The First Minute Of A New Day

Of all the US versions illustrated here, this version has the only label that resembles mine exactly, from the wording, to the formatting, to the font, and even the runout is almost exact. However mine has one difference: it has the circled P & C 1975 in white on the bottom rim text before Arista Records.

Firstly, the music contained in this album is phenomenal. This TVT reissue was my first copy, but I can happily say I recently found an original in superb condition and for only $25, so I quickly snapped it up. In comparison to the original, I agree with the comment below. This reissue sounds TERRIBLE, which is such a shame as the music is so good. If this is your only chance to own it, do so, but if you can replace it with a nice original copy, then don't think twice...DO IT!

it's odd that this album's fidelity is poorer than i'd expect - from the liners, it's sounds like this was Gil Scott-Heron's own record label handling the reissue. however, it doesn't sound like a tape remaster, this sounds like a vinyl dub with some heavy-handed noise suppression. it has the same quality to it as low-bitrate MP3s, and there's still surface noise in places. i wonder if the masters had disappeared. the musical content is A+ but having finally tracked this down after a long search... the fidelity does leave something to be desired.

Is this really the first time this album was released on CD?

Images shown here have a blue/gray cast. The background on my copy is a tan/sand color. Better color than that shown. Interesting graphics. of the gorilla-guerilla.

Imho this is not from an analog source. The sound is harsh and awfull. The pressing I got was also full of scuffs and marks. Avoid! The sticker is only there to mislead people. This is a great album but sounds ghastly on this issue!
