This is the best digital master of this album, albeit with reversed stereo channels.
The Mushroom CD from 1991 isn't bad per se, but is not quite as sharp. The 2006 remaster is also fine but a little more compressed.- Agree, nice pressing. My copy is on translucent Quiex vinyl common for A&M in this time period. Depends on the light, kinda green, kinda grey. But it's translucent nonetheless in bright light.
No IGD issues to speak of on my copy and rig. Nice dynamic sound. Not their finest album, but still some good moments. - Edited 2 years ago

Just heard this now after being a Split Enz fan for ages and am wondering why it gets such a bad press?
Why are folk so obessed with ranking things - they are just different and we all have individual preferences.
There is no doubt this is a Split Enz album, all the finger prints are there. The drum machine and preponderance of keyboards do make for a different 'feel' but then, why the hell not? Stop comparing and just enjoy it for what it is - original pop music for people with brains. - Edited 2 years agoThis album is FULL on progressive rock modernized with a heavy dose of art house funk.
The compositions are complex, fun, and interesting while still being poppy. But - it's definitely arty verging on pretentious. Except it's not pretentious, because - they are clearly just enjoying the music they are making. It's more that's it's entirely earnest while being entirely progressive arthouse.
The only real hit on this is Message to My Girl. I don't know that I ever contextualized this song as anything other than a pop love song. But in the context of the album, it's clearly a progressive love song that bends toward pop.
The 12 inch that comes with this - is excellent! I really liked both sides. Side 1 Kia Kaha is a chant. referencing Conflicting Emotions (LP, Album) RML 53107
Where-in Neil develops his talents as a singer & Tim fades into the background. Some good (but only 1 great) songs. Mired by dated patented early 80s pop gloss. Worthwhile effort. Still has that Split Enz weird pizazz- Edited 4 years agoNothing like their best album - head for 'Mental Notes/Second Thoughts' and 'Dizrythmia' if you're looking for that - but this is worth having for the beautiful 'The Devil You Know' and the almost-but-not-quite-as-good 'Bon Voyage'
And that's your lot, really... - Was this 12" Single ever released independently ( on its own as a single in this format ) ; or did it come as an additional part of the Conflicting Emotions album ?
