Jay Dee Aka J Dilla – Welcome 2 Detroit

Really dig the instrumental version of this album. Can listen to Dilla's beats without distraction. Given this was originally supposed to be a bed for lyrics, it's not as out-and-out crazy as Donuts, but is still worth seeking out. Faves: "Think Twice," " "Rico Suave Bossa Nova" and "African Rhythms."

Great jubilee edition with credible bonus content. But I am really wondering why the intro track „Welcome 2 Detroit“ is missing on this one.

No trace of “Rico Suave bossa nova” on this version, despite Discogs showing it

Make sure you go through all 12 discs when you purchase sealed box set. I had two separate returns due it duplicate discs which resulted in one missing disc. It wasn’t a mislabel, songs and run out grove numbers all match on duplicate copies. This happened twice.

Mine has the letters MPO scratched out on Side A and Side B run out. Not sure if this should be listed as a separate release?

sure about that this one is the instrumental version? none of previously release including the C4 track “Rico Suave Bossa Nova”， additionally, looking at the artwork, there's no "instrumentals"

where's the "Rico Suave Bossa Nova", not on this version?

I was only introduced to Jay Dee following his death. I purchased this record and was immediately blown away by his distinctive heavy, raw sound. Alot of the tracks appear quite simple, but that is why they are so effective. The stand out track for me is "Pause", the beats are lethal. Definitely dancefloor based, that much is clear. His tracks can cross the divide from hip hop to that detroit house/techno sound, purveyed by the likes of the three chairs and Carl Craig. Badly missed, RIP
