The only one of Vliet's official releases, during his career, released under his 'solo' name. His art and poetry also features strongly on the back cover. 'The Magic Band' remain unmentioned. Art Tripp gets 2 aliases; Ted Cactus & Ed Marimba.
Released Jan 1972 during the transition of Reprise & Kinney, the UK issues began using the 'K' cat#s and, by the end of 1975, the Warner 'W' lozenge logo began appearing in label radius text. UK 1st issues had lyrics on single-sided inserts, which also featured in a few other country issues (i.e. Germany). The recording was later 'paired' to other albums; 2 Originals Of Captain Beefheart (with "Lick My Decals Off, Baby") [1976], Double Dynamite (with "Clear Spot") [c1976] and The Spotlight Kid / Clear Spot CD [1990 to 2006].

- Just reflecting on how great this album is. This pressing is very good. I have the digital CB version also. This is far far better. Depth, clarity and quantity of bass. High level groves
- I have a good copy but a bit crackly, sound is great but I hope they will release this with better qualitycontroll and in black vinyl,
I am suspicious about the beautifull but unconvincing coloured vinyl releases of any artist. I prefer the black vinyl soundwise.
I ordered this for the remix but did not expect the clear vinyl. So my copy sounds fine allover, that is record 1, didn't listen yet to the outtakes record. 
Edited 8 months agoA great album, with glitches on the first listen-- And nothing to do with the beautiful, flat, clean, new vinyl. Good packaging.
Now I am on the 2nd listen, and not perceiving as much problem. The bass is loud, but I like it. I'm waiting to hear the distortions on the vocals I heard before, but an initial playing might have worked some dust off the grooves or something.- Mine is grey and pink vinyl. Anyone else got one?

Pressing is a piece of s...e , if you know what I mean ! 
Mine has knarly crackle in right channel side 1 and background rest of the LPs. Disappointing as previous CB I had gotten were top notch. Maybe I got a lemon or my system just does not like it.- Incredible album and AAA mastering. Pressing is so-so - I have non-fill in a few spots on side 1 (mostly the first track). But man, this is fun to listen to. Thoroughly enjoy the second disc too, which might have the better overall sound of the two.
My copies are flat and perfect and the sound is mind blowingly great. I agree that poly-lined inner sleeves would be great but I just buy my own and replace the cheap paper inner sleeves so no biggie.
It's okay. Both records came dirty, the spotlight color has some specks of black wax baked in - looks lousy as f.
Side B presents some distortion on Glider, primarily on Don's vocals (exclusively right channel, not an anti-skating issue though).
I guess it sounds the best it ever sounded on vinyl, but the surface noise and general lousiness in quality control is disappointing.
My copy was slightly warped but didn't effect sound. Poly lined inner sleeves would have been nice as well but the record is 10/10! Sounds absolutely incredible.
