...this futuristic group never appeared in any rock lexica i knew, but their
second album "contact" (69) still has a hypnotic influence on me today, like
in 1988 when i discovered them through sky bird & the fish of hope. okay,
the vocals may be weak, but this visionary keyboard sound-madness (incl.
funny banjo-gimmicks) predates a whole lot of techno, and silver apples must
be mentioned in the same breath as suicide, velvet underground, soft machine,
hawkwind and white noise...
essential! this release combines both of the albums Silver Apples released in the late 60s and in great sound quality. incredible early electronica
I came across a copy of this version recently and it was cheap enough to take a chance. I was surprised that it was actually pretty listenable considering it's an illegit CD of needle-drops. There are some weird NR issues (the phone ringing, namely) on "You're Not Foolin' Me" which for whatever reason fades 30 second early, and "Fantasies" is loud to the point of distortion.
