It's 2024 and still not a CD from master tapes. And "Can I Get A Witness" is only available with CD quality on ONE compilation that is a rare sight, even on Discogs. One of my favorite albums by the Commodores. Time for a proper CD, please, Universal!

"Movin' On" (Dad Joke, and "The Commodores" third LP).....

After the group started really getting noticed because of "Caught In The Act", this "Movin' On" album helped "The Commodores" to continue to reach their next step....

The album started a little odd for "The Commodores" though....

The first three songs ("Hold On", "Free" and "Mary, Mary"), was done as sort of a FUNK SUITE....Even though it wasn't labeled as such, these FUNKY joints were weaved together, only to be held together by very very Punchy Horns!!!!! In fact, that's how you knew it was going to the next song....

The final song on side one (and the Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel) is "Sweet Love".....This "Lionel Richie" penned MASTERPIECE, again showed that his Songwriting was getting BETTER and BETTER!!!!! This joint also had "Lionel" with Pleaful Vocals about People Loving Each Other....

Notice the pattern? The group realized that "Lionel" was just that Powerful of a Songwriter....So it really made sense that at least one of his Compositions had to be on the albums!!!!!!

The second side starts with the "Walter Orange" penned "(Can I) Get A Witness"....It has "Walter" on his FUNKY Pulpit, so to speak....Even though I don't consider this a Crown Jewel, it's not a snub either....Plus, "Walter" was also a gifted "Vocalist", and he had very very GOOD performances for the group....This was one of them (Ok, I will make it a Crown Jewel).....

The next Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel in "Gimme My Mule" (Written by "Ronald LaPread"), was HILARIOUS!!!!!! This Country FUNK joint also had a serious side to it, but it was put in such a funny way!!!!! Even though "Ronald" Wrote it, he "Passed the Mic" to "Lionel", who NAILED it with his Country FUNK Vocals!!!!! What really made this joint FUNNY was, toward the end "Lionel" breaks out in a "GIVE ME SOME COUNTRY"!!!! chant!!!! Like I said, HILARIOUS!!!!

"Time" (Written by "Thomas McClary and "William King") is really the only dud of the album...It's not terrible, but not all that either...

The album ends on a VERY high note, with the Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel, "Cebu".....Written by "Thomas McClary", I believe it was inspired by the "Philippines" City (even though I can't prove it)....It has a very Exotic Moody Backdrop, with the groups signature sound....The ending was FANTASTIC, having "Walter" Break It Down, with his FANTASTIC almost one minute Drum finish....I also believe that this was the groups last instrumental (which kind of makes me sad a little)....

Even though this wasn't stronger than the last two albums, it did sell very well!!!! By this time people just wanted the groups albums, and that was a VERY VERY good thing....After this, the groups Popularity would get even better!!!!!

PS: The Album Revolution for the group is next!!!!!!

Digitally remastered edition of this 1975 album by the R&B greats. The Commodores were an American funk/soul band of the 1970's and 1980's. The members of the group met as mostly freshmen at Tuskegee University in 1968. They signed with Motown in November 1972, having first caught the public eye opening for the Jackson 5 while on tour. Originally they came from two former groups the Mystics and the Jays, but wanted to change the name. To choose a new name William "WAK" King opened a dictionary and randomly picked a word. "We lucked out," he remarked with a laugh when telling this story to People magazine. "We almost became the Commodes!"

Terrible vinyl rip. Universal should be ashamed of themselves to allow PTG to butcher this album.

The catalogue number on my version is STML 12011. This I believe is the original release, STMS is likely a re-issue at budget price.
