Edited 12 months agoThis record was a big deal when it came out. Dance music was for a niche culture that demanded a rugged sound. This record was surgically polished but it was embraced and IMHO, it’s one of the records that defined the era when underground dance music matured beyond the club.
It’s musicality is thorough and it’s soulful AF. If I had to describe it in the least amount of words possible, it’s “Good People.”
edit: I think the US cover art was a disservice to the effort of marketing the album. It’s a great cover and I have no qualms with the design - the problem was that this design was not representative of the the aesthetic of the music, it looks more like an IDM or glitch cover from that era and since these genres where super-niche, underground heads shrugged it off without giving it a listen. I think it could have had a larger impact with a different design.
