Myrkur (4) – M

I’m not concerned so much with slapping labels on Myrkur or trying to define what genre she is or isn’t. I just judge it on it’s own merits and my preferences and I love this album. Onde Born being my favorite song.

If anyone would be considering to sell their box for one of my kidneys, hit me up :3

Vinyl itself : perfectly pressed and beautiful colors
Sound : no surface noise, good quality for this colors but i guess black vinyl is more appropriate for good sound.

I have a white pressing with a US barcode. Anyone have any info on that?

Myrkur is another band you "love to hate".. and I can understand why. Given her background and novice in the black metal scene, one could argue the pretentiousness of her material. The way Relapse Records has over-hyped and forced this outfits material down listeners throats could also be another reason why this is so loathed as well. As I will agree this is no where near the "future of black metal" (really?), I will say it has both its' beautiful & dull moments. I probably wouldn't care as much if Myrkur wasn't fronted by a good looking chick but aside from the background of its sole member I actually enjoy this release for what it's worth. Though there are too many unnecessary fillers ("Nordlys" is harrowing yet beautiful) and some weak riffs in some of the black metal songs, I feel she has great potential in further releases; if she continues in this style. If it weren't for both Bruun & Relapse for trying so hard to make this project the next big thing in metal, I don't think Myrkur would catch most of the negativity it most certainly doesn't deserve. Atmospheric Black/Folk Metal that needs some polish and years of experience to really achieve its' true value, but overall not a bad release at all.
