      Stunning debut of beautifully arranged jangly sophisticated stylistic 80s pop from future Shack (etc) Liverpudlian music svengali Michael Head with blazing brass sections, sweeping string orchestrations & folksy acoustic guitars adding to the musical mix.
      An unabashed aural pleasure.

        The Initial ad they had online for the 2023 re-issue had a yellow.side with the main cover in black and white. But when I received them the other day, it was the same yellow cover. I wish they came up with a gatefold sleeve with all the b sides etc like the Japanese CD! Maybe next time to will give it love and care! (a proper boxset would be great!)

            Brilliantly underrated band & album! Ahead of its time… their use of the trumpet creates a sophsticated Brit indie pop sound that pre-dates the Housemartins. A great sounding pressing!

                This is a Japanese unofficial. Some of this circulating have an issue like skipping and loud pop.

                  The album release year is incorrect. This was released in 1984 not 1983. If you look at the rea of the cover the songs were published (p) 1983 but copyright (c) 1984. The copyright is the release year.

                  Also I have a different version of this album. I have an original first UK pressing (with Inner Sleeve etc) but the catalogue number has a sticker over the original catalogue number with the OVED 143 catalogue number. Clearly its a remainder of the first impression sent out with the rereleased stock but this doesn't exist as a variant

                    I discovered Michael Head the front man and main songwriter of the Pale Fountains during his Strands period. He has probably been one of the unluckiest musicians of a generation as he has never really reached a level of success his songwriting deserved. Always on the look-out for reasonably priced back catalogue items and found this in a trawl around Brussels record shops. Really fantastic eighties indie pop, recommended.
