- I think it was sometime around halfway through my first listen i realised i was sat in my listening chair grinning and rolling my head side to side just like Stevie did. Yeah, not a bad pressing at all this one!
- Is there such a thing as shoegaze soul? That's the best way I can describe this album. It's got a different vibe than the other Wonder masterpieces that precede and follow it. More mellow, introspective, contemplative. "Creepin'" seems to float by. "They Won't Go When I Go" is hauntingly beautiful. This pressing sounds impressive, very deep and rich in the low end, with a dense and layered soundstage. My copy plays nice and clean with just a trace of faint surface noise at times.
- Edited one year agoThis Is A Massive Revelation Of This Album And A Infinite Improvement Over The Original USA First Pressing. So Much More Vibrancy And Life Is Breathing Through This Pressing When Compared To That One. Definitely A Must Own For Fans Of This Album, An Unfortunate Forgotten Gem Within Stevie Wonder's Classic 70's Era.
- I've Been Listening To This Album In The Context Of Stevie's 70's Output A Lot Over The Past Few Months And I've Grown So Fond Of It That It's Become My Favourite Album Of His. For Me There's A Perfect Balance Between The Warmth And Soulfulness Within The Laid Back Vibe Of The Music Alongside The Fantastic Songwriting That There Isn't A Single Weak Moment Or Less Then Stellar Song And The Songs Don't Overstay Their Welcome Like They Sometimes Do On Say An Album Like Songs In The Key Of Life. The Highlights Would Have To Be Practically The Entirety Of The First Half Which Is Basically Back To Back Masterpieces. Yes, The Album Has A Problem With A Muddy Mix With A Lack Of Top End Detail But I Haven't Heard Any Of The "Remasters" Which Rectify That Without Hurting The Gentleness Of The Albums Character So To Speak. That's Why This First CD Press Is Essential For This Album To My Ears.
- A very nice album, but pressing is awful. Bass is not bad at all, treble and backing vocals sound mud. Ballance/channel separation not good enough as well. In my case this album could be listenable through the headphones, not through speakers indeed.
- It's a shame this lp has had no reviews, so I am honored to be the first. Perhaps overlooked because of Talking book, Innervisions and Songs in the key of life which any artist would be proud of. With that said, this lp is as good as the other three I mention, and if you aren't familiar, please get to know this marvelous release and enjoy it as much as I have
- Edited one year agoA Somewhat Forgotten Masterpiece By The One And Only Stevie Wonder, It Doesn't Quite Have The Back To Back Amazing Feel That The Two Albums That Precede It (Talking Book, Innervisions) Have Or The Blockbuster That Comes After It Does (Songs In The Key Of Life) But It's Still Pretty Fantastic In It's Own Right, Side 1 Being A Lot More Quality With Every Song Worthy Of Being Regarded As A Stevie Classic But Side 2 Only Has The Grandiose They Won't Go When I Go And Everything Gets Overshadowed By It, Although I Really Like The Closer Please Don't Go. This Album Unfortunately Has Something Weird Going On With The Sound Due To Whatever Was Done During The Recording Or Mixdown And Pressings Regardless On Vinyl Or CD Can Be Very Lacking In Top End Detail Sound Wise I Have Found. This First USA Press Sounds Great On My System Even If That Lack Of Top End To The Music Is Still Present Somewhat With Smile Please Being The Worst Offender, I Should Also Note These OG US Pressings Have A Good Deal Of Static To Them Due To Being Made With Quite Cheap And Noisy Vinyl.
