Motörhead – Bad Magic

This box set is only going to keep up going in price. I was lucky enough to snatch this for £30 off amazon. I wanted it for a while but was waiting for a price drop. I wanted it as I'm a huge motorhead fan, it's cool to have and my first proper boxset for any artist.

According to some of the comments here. People are experiencing marks and hairlines on the vinyls. I can say that I have not experienced those. I've played all them as well and they play perfectly fine. Don't see any issues with them.

Only thing I wish they done for this box set is include the live tracks from disc 2 of the CD on vinyl. That would of been insane on vinyl. Though that probably would of been too expensive (though the box set is expensive now as it is).

I liked everything within the box set. The actual LP of the album is really good. It's a sad album but also a good album. The bonus tracks are a fantastic edition as well. The Lemmy - "War, love, death and injustice" 12" vinyl is a fantastic listen. Listening to it on vinyl felt like I was actually in the room with them. The quality was that good. I don't use the ouija board. Didn't know what they were or how they worked. Though after being told I don't mess with it. Only thing I do is have it on display as it looks cool as heck with the Ace Of Spades.

New tracks and the live cd are cool but..

The vinyls, especially the interview have marks and hairlines on them.. Not a must have, only for the collector..

Overall OK. Sounds decent, mine had some quality control issues but plays fine.

A good pressing, flat and quiet. Not audiophile, but decent separation of instruments and good punch. The extra songs are ok. Crankable. Agree with ReneEinz, the sound is better on the extra tracks.

"Heroes" is a different version here than on the Under Cöver-CD I got - it has a fade out at the end while on Under Cöver it doesn't fade out and the band eventually ends the song by themselves. Otherwise "Heroes" doesn't sound good on this pressing, even the Under Cöver-CD version sounds better (they lowered Lemmys vocals in volume to prevent sibilance, this makes the sound too muffled). All in all the original first press LP of Bad Magic doesn't sound any better or worse even if they crambed 13 songs on one LP there which means that this new 2-LP set that presents Bad Magic on three sides doesn't improve the sound in any way. Btw: This is - for my taste - the worst sounding Motörhead album of them all, the CD is unlistenable and the LP-versions are merely ok... but the engineering on this album is in general catastrophic.
What is interesting though is: The two "new" bonus tracks (D2 & D3) are the best sounding songs on the whole release which proves that this is not a faulty pressing but the mixing of the album is the problem. Just listen to D3 which is the same music as "Till the End" and check how naturally sounding and dynamic the sound of the music is here while on the final album track all is totally squashed when the song hits the refrain.

Is it just me or does LP2 say "LP 2 - Side B" on both sides?

Bonus tracks 'Bullet In Your Brain' and 'Greedy Bastards' are quite good, but second live disc is rather poor quality, just as I thought. Nothing special overall, no need to buy this album again, unless you don't have it.

Overall a nice pressing of the 2LP, maybe a bit lacking in the low-ends for my taste. Otherwise crackle-free and flat. The additional non-album LP "Lemmy: War, Love, Death And Injustice" shows a hilarious amount of scuffing and hairlines, furthermore the record is not even placed inside a sleeve, they have put it directly into the jacket. Both issues (scuffing, missing sleeve) appear to be common to this box, according to reviews on Amazon my observations are not exceptional. The scuffing reminds me strongly of certain LPs that came with the Black Sabbath Super Deluxe Boxes. No idea about the pressing plants at the moment, but I'm looking at you, GZ media. Miraculously, I couldn't make out any crackling on the interview as of yet.
All of this said and in addition to the half-questionable, half-goofy, half-funny (see what I did there?) gimmicks (Ouija board and planchette), I am still very happy with the box, because: hey man, it's all about Rock'n'Roll and Lemmy is his only begotten son! I will grab any unreleased piece of his gospel I can get.

I believe this is the gold picture disc with green rim. That is the version I got when I ordered it. Not green picture disc . I'm sure Nuclear Blast said there was a mix up when they were pressed.

Anyone notice side A sounds fine but side B lacks treble?
