Swans ‎– White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity

Genre:
Style:
Year:
Notes:
Although originally released in several formats and in both the US and UK in the early 1990's, these recordings remained hard to find in their original form for a long time, due to the lack of timely reissues - they appeared only as part of the basis for the Various Failures 1988-1992 compilation at the end of the decade.

The entire album was however re-issued in 2015 both as part of the White Light From The Mouth Of Infinity / Love Of Life compilation and as a stand alone vinyl release. These versions contain the extra track "Blind" recorded during the same sessions, but omitted from the original release.

Also came with Aaron Neville 45RPM Warm Your Heart Disc 1 in the second sleeve instead of record 2 for White Light From The Mouth of Infinity.
The strangest part is that the Arron Neville record is from a remastered Original Recordings Group release ORG-141 from 2013.

Even weirder, I recall when getting the CD in 1991 that a copy I had also had an Aaron Neville recording mismatch. Must be a bar code issue?

Weird, the tracklist provided with the lyric sheet says that You Know Nothing is track 9 when it's actually track 3.

being that this's gonna be repressed soon, there's no reason to sell it over $20

This is a visceral work, its nature comes and then shakes and crawls inside the listener and eventually while the dirge strolls from Gira cover him with its defeated tones and the synths charge in with intense backgrounds of bleak beauty, a tear will fall or a heart crushing sentiment will invade the self. Youre in front of a confession.Love its depicted as a tragedy composed by a passion that devours all and ultimately consumes itself leaving only the ashes of love. Failure and neurosis follow behind as specters that add some pain extra and in the end the landscape its quite desperate but cold, wasteland and failure with the behaviour of someone who has been beaten severely by effects of his own cause. If youre trying to define what "Dark Folk" means, I suggest you to listen to this album and then you'll have the picture very clear. This is probably one of the heaviest albums ever made,it may overrun you almost without noticing,a punch that youll feel at start with "Better than you" and this sensation of overhelming perdition will increase exponentially as the album grows."You know nothing" and the outstanding jewel "Love will save you" its something really special, emotionally shaking and developing. The music its melancholically sweet and hypnotically rhythmic, its simplicity makes it almost bleak, but the lyricism in synchrony with the poetry and the rhyme makes this the marvel it is. Gira's voice its so fatigued and weary and truly goes with the melancholic melody. The keyboard accompaniment add this macabre touch to the folky tones, putting emphasis in the tragedy of its notes and the rest of the instrumental ornamentation creates such a maremagnum of sweet details that makes it special. In one word, Sweet sorrow. Jarboe voice is the one of a fallen angel lost in its own misery but never surrendering its beauty and in the end it becomes almost a musicalized tragedy with clear literary form. This is heavy metal for the soul, listen once and not in Sundays and when alone.
