The Church – Priest = Aura

I have nothing to compare it to, but after all the good reviews I feel underwelmed by this pressing. Sure, it's flat and noise free, but very lacking in both high and bottom end. It sounds like it's being played with a blanket over the speakers. Disappointing.

Although there are many songs on this album, the band, in my opinion, gives its best. The psychedelic-melancholic sound that we hear on this album (practically throughout the album) is not present in their previous albums. For me, it's a great work by The Church.

I own the original from '82 and this MOV repress on 2 LP. If you want the extra track "Dome", buy the CD and not this release. Because, if the sound of this superb album is what does it for you, you should definitely go for the original from '82. That release on one LP blows this one on 2 LP out of the water. It sounds so much clearer, has better highs and lows and much more detail. It is also more dynamic and open, has better soundstage and sounds more natural.

Great original pressing. Sounds perfect. Flat. No crackles. Dynamic mastering.

This one blows away Gold Afternoon Fix which would have been better serve split over 2LP. I have an original P+A and a Plain pressing (which I honestly didn't think was that bad). I'll have to compare the three and then report back. But this release certainly holds up on its own.

This pressing is great, especially if you can get it before it's OOP and doubles in price. Uncoated printing on the jacket looks good and 2 lps is really nice. Can't imagine the single lp pressing sounding great. My copy is dead quiet, nice and flat pressing. Sound-wise this great on my system (Technics 1200, Klipsch Heresy, MacIntosh MA 230) with nice sonics and detail. Very happy.

An old favorite from my early twenties and a still lovable recording in an outstanding pressing that makes you fall in love with The Church’s sound all over again.
