referencing Triple J: Like A Version (CD, Compilation) 14242
Like A Version is a weekly morning segment on Triple J, an Australian national radio station. The presenter, Mel Bampton, gets an artist or group into the studio to do a cover of any song of their choosing. For the range of artists, songs chosen and styles played, this program has become a big favourite for listeners. And this, is the first CD compilation of the live on air performances.
This is not a CD for those who like to sit in one genre. The original song's release dates cover almost 40 years so an open mind of music is a must. But it's so rewarding when you hear how these modern artists interpret these songs. For example, the cover of Hotel California being sung entrely in French, The Pictures strumming Milkshake on guitar (the riff sounding suspiciously like Wake Up Little Suzy) and the cover of Hyperballad with only a cello and guitar.
It's not a party starter, but more like an exhibition of music and a bit of insight as to how artists can influence other artists.
