It was supposed to be an authentic record of the 1979 tour but Columbia and Alfa couldn’t reach agreement on a fee or royalty rate for Kazumi Watanabe’s guitar work. Under pressure to release the album anyway Sakamoto and possibly Yano performed synth overdubs based on his guitar performance, particularly the solos. The result makes the album more “synth” than the real recordings were, which eventually came out on “Faker Holic”, “Live at the Greek Theatre” and one of Sakamoto’s Year Book releases.
Early vinyl pressings have the intro to “TVC15” by David Bowie playing at the end of Side One. This was the track played by the DJ in The Venue in London after YMO left the stage. It was edited out for the CD release in 1984 and all subsequent reissues.
Most CD versions have the Greek Theatre announcer playing at the end of “The End Of Asia” rather than at the start of “Cosmic Surfin’”.
The Music On Vinyl (MOV) clear vinyl pressing edits out most of the audience applause between “Tong Poo” and “The End of Asia”.

The instruments just come alive on this record. A galactic orchestra filled with serious rhythms and out-of-this-world sounds. Get on the Yellow Magic School Bus and get down.
Very good pressing, but I prefer the original albums than live.

I suppose that this album serves as the last YMO album before the big worldwide move to digital synths. a collection of 9 tracks recorded all around the world, live. quite properly, the album is called "Public Pressure" as one, their music was heavily confined to the studio and two, they were now going to a different ordinance around the world. You travel with them to L.A, London, Paris and more. These recording really do capture what an amazing live performance could give live and the recording sound surprisingly great considering their age. There are parts that have been cut out of the recordings though as YMO wanted to just show there performance rather than the two members of there live band. Iv always thought that this was not necessary in any way. To me, the end is cut short. YMO finally return home and open to the audience and then start playing there big hit "Behind The Mask". Problem is that it then fades out. There biggest song around the world is left out of the album....AY?

A quick listing of the different Japanese LP pressings (not all are on Discogs as of 13/11/2010):
1) Limited edition clear vinyl, red labels, manufactured by Victor Musical Industries, obi strip has "COLOR RECORD" at the top.
2) 1st press black vinyl (promos exist of this), red labels, white obi strip with red text. Manufactured by Victor Musical Industries.
3) 2nd press black vinyl, pink/purple gradiated labels, red obi strip with black text. This is the most common pressing, manufactured by Victor Musical Industries.
4) 3rd press (1983) black vinyl, light beige labels, same obi strip as No3 but should say (in Japanese) that the record is manufactured by Warner-Pioneer. It does not have that on the label so be careful and learn katakana!
If anyone knows of any more variations please let me know!
