Blind Melon – Soup

I've had my eye on the analog spark issue from 2017 for a minute now, but never pulled the trigger on it, and today I saw this at Barnes and Noble, without even being aware it has been reissued. I impulsively bought it, wondering the whole time if I was making a mistake and should just shell out the extra 20ish bucks and order from one of the sellers here for the 2017.

I don't know if this was mastered from the original tapes, if it was just a repress from existing plates, or really anything about it, but it sounds great to me. It's not audiophile, but it's very decent. Quiet with decent dynamics and punch, sufficient bass (for a record that isn't to my knowledge intended to be bass heavy), and the vocals and guitars sound natural and live.

Might pick up the analog spark if I run across it in the wild, but this satisfies my craving to have one of my all time favorite albums in my vinyl collection.

Interesting, so this doesn’t use the same stampers as the MOV or the Analog Spark editions. Is this a new remaster?

Great sounding press - nearly as good as my analog spark

Bought a copy yesterday and it truly does sound amazing! As the other reviewer stated, I haven't compared it to any other pressing, but this one slaps! A lifelong keeper!

My copy was pure bliss, right out of the poly-lined sleeve.

Even without a cleaning, it had zero noise - not one pop, tick or background surface noise to detract from the experience.

Despite the length of the sides (about 24+ minutes or so) the sound is loud, dynamic and punches with some heft.

I recommend grabbing this while you still can, before prices go through the roof.

Fantastic pressing! Gatefold and photos are quality. Zero surface noise, nice punch and great imaging. Soundstage and dynamics are also top notch. I’ve never heard this album this good. That said I’ve only ever listened to the CD and not the MOV or Spark versions. However, I can’t imagine them sounding better than this. Orange vinyl is cool but it would have looked better if it was more of a soup color like transparent orange. This color is more like neon orange.

Hahaha limited to 10 copies, yet over 20 people claim to have one??

Can anyone telll me if B5 Mouthful Of Cavities, is the version with Jena Kraus?
