- I don’t mind bubble gum. It’s fun. But holy crap some of these songs melted my brain. Real legit nuggets of psych.
- Edited one year agoLast year, while on a road trip I listened to this album for the first time after reading some of the positive reviews about the psych tracks. So I put my headphones on and listened to the stereo album. I couldn't stand how the vocals were on one side for some songs. I didn't listen to the album again. Then I heard that the lp had a true mono mix so I decided to get it. I was blown away. I couldn't get enough of it. The difference between the stereo and mono is like night and day. Please get a mono copy if you can. It's worth it.
- Dedicated mono mix (NOT a fold-down), apparently unissued commercially. Some of the mixes are VERY different from the stereo, with different "psychedelic" effects vs. the stereo on some tracks.
- Edited 5 years agoThink this is lame bubblegum? Think again. While the opening tracks on both sides fall into that trap, the rest is WAY above average psych rock. If it wasn’t The Ohio Express it’d be rated as top shelf psychedelia and sell for 10x the price. Gotta believe this is how the band actually were outside of the studio. This is a SERIOUS sleeper!
- Edited 7 years agoHello everybody,
Here are 3 psychedelia masterpieces :
- First Grade Reader
- Turn To Straw
- The Time You Spent With Me
It's easy to recognize them : these are the 3 songs which are longer than 3 minutes. - While most of this LP is full of the silly style of bubble gum pop that The Ohio Express
were mostly well known for, and by which they had attained some national exposure
due to a couple of top ten hits. It should be noted that two of the tracks on this their
second LP (I believe the tracks are called "Into this Time" & " The Time You Spent
With Me") are top notch pieces of pure psych rock indicative of that era. And I
recommend any die hard enthusiast's of this genre style to seek it out just on
the merit of those two tracks alone. It's one of those secret surprise records
that can be had for relatively cheap.
