Colleen's debut EVERYONE ALIVE WANTS ANSWERS is like a sonic blast of bliss; the opening title track layers on the sounds for a cloud-like atmosphere. Meanwhile, the loop on "Ritournelle" flits around like a fairy on a leash, while the short and shimmering "Your Heart On Your Sleeve" drifts on the edge of happiness. "Long Live Mice In The Metro" brings in a wobbly darkness, while "I Was Deep In A Dream And I Didn't Know It" is spare and nearly glacial. The music box melodies of "Babies" blends a sweetness with an edge of creepiness, and "A Swimming Pool Down The Railway Track" clatters with seemingly found percussion and organ swells. And "Nice And Simple" ends the album on a bright note. Utterly unique and compelling.

Note that all the music has been made with microphone pre-recorded loops from old vinyls collection and sort of.
The songs are wonderfully crafted and modulated into stratospherique sonic scapes just retaining the original music part looped.
But eventually you can listen some dust noise wich is into the track itself and not on your vinyl copy!
So get off your wrist to polish and enjoy the dust hiss crackle in time with music!
At the end i want to say i want to marry Collenn because she is brilliant with her music.

Colleen is almost like the female embodyment of Susumu Yokota and French arty composer Pierre Bastien into 1 person.
It sounds as if she's using various instruments on her debut album, though it is in fact put together from samples from old records which she has modified in a gigantic PC (her words) with crackling, pulse-thriving sounds that collide into brilliant subtle melodies.
It is hazy dreamlike, haunting and ambientesque composition.
Her style on this cd can't be called electronica pur sang, but rather experimental and/or modern composition as there is a lot of attention give to the evolving melodies.
This was my most amazing discovey of 2003 and surely my favorite cd of last year
