Reviews
- Bonkers' 10th anniversary gives us a solid release overall. The title is a tad misleading as only the second CD is really what I'd consider a "best of", with CD1 taking a flight to the Netherlands halfway through and I'm not sure Scott Brown got the memo that it was supposed to be a trip back through Bonkers history and not just "please mix some songs for us".
I enjoyed disc 1 here a lot more than I did 16's, but mostly because Re-Con doesn't have any of his own songs in it. It branches off into some Dutch happy gabber in the second half which is very fun to listen to.
At this point it might as well be an expectation for Sharkey to deliver something special, and he definitely does here. It starts with some earlier trancecore and soon leads into some proper freeform. You'd expect a compilation like this to have at least a loose chronological order to its tracks, but you have songs from all over the place in no particular order here, and it's pulled off really quite nicely.
Out of all the Bonkers installments, this is probably Scott's worst offender. It takes 14 songs for him to play something that isn't his, and while I get wanting to promote your brand, it's a little excessive for me and starts getting stale after a bit. The gabber is nice though. referencing Best Of Bonkers - Hardcore Generation - 10th Anniversary Album (3×CD, Mixed, Compilation) CSR CD 5385
The wait to listen to this cd was definetly worth it. 3 cds 5 world class djs. What more could you ask for from the bonkers series.
The first cd (hixxy and Re-con) starts off with what you would expect on this cd, with tracks like; the slipmatt remix of higher love, peoples party, wonderland. But most suprising thing was the last 7 tracks were all oldskool gabber. Not what i expected from these 2. A excellant suprise.
After listening to cd one cd two definety had to be top quality to stand up to the track selection of the first cd. I was definetly not dissappointed. Tracks one to eight are absolute classics. The mixing between these tracks is very creative and tight. Some of the mixes go for over two minutes. The first track (toytown remix) is amazing. I hope this song gets the full release treatment. The last 15 or so tracks take you through a progression of freeform. The mixing through this is tight as you would expect.
Scott Browns cd is a massive disappointment. This seems to be a staple scott brown mix. The mixing is unimaginative. It is clean, but there is even a mix borrowed from bonkers 9 (Sy & Bring Me Round To Love into Scott Brown Rock You Softly). Where the other 4 djs have used tracks from a varity of artists, the majority of these tracks were all his. So much for variety.
Nonetheless i would reccomend buying this cd for the first two cds
