Gainsbourg* – L'Homme À Tête De Chou

No "Back to Black" sticker on mine, but I agree with everything that has been said about the pressing quality and outstanding musical dynamics.

Great sounding reissue, cover is same as the original one.

I am very happy with my vinyl copy of this remixed album. In recent years I have not always been happy with the quality and consistency of ever more expensive vinyl reissues, but this one truly sounds excellent throughout on my good old Thorens TD 160 Mk1 with a modern Ortofon Quintet Bronze MC cartridge. Dedicated mastering, with an intermediate step on analogue tape for natural dynamic compression, was used for the vinyl reissues and it shows.

A lot has been said about the 2023 remix. Personally I like it a lot, even after having known and regularly listened to the original album for almost two decades. Gainsbourg's vocals sound more natural and the musical background shines more than ever and is so much richer and more layered and textured.

And indeed, it is not cheap. I paid about EUR 45 for a 2LP, but imho it was worth every cent.

Incontournable, cette version double LP, révèle un travail d'orfèvrerie en remixage sonore à partir des pistes originales, il y aura trois masterisations différentes, pour le LP, pour le CD, et pour le blu-ray audio en dolby atmos. Pour le LP, ce qui me concerne, la clarté est le maitre mot, jamais la voix de S.Gainsbourg, ne m'a paru aussi clair. Le second LP, quand à lui, offre les versions instrumentales dans un superbe pressage ! Sans oublier le livret bonus à l'intérieur. TOP !

The Dolby Atmos mix is outstanding, a must-have for any surround afficionado.
The stereo mix brings a welcome balance between the music and the spoken word and the instrumental mix is pure bliss.

Who's got the 2023 mix, released today? Brilliant. The original multitrack tapes were unearthed, allowing for an 'as it was intended' release. The original 1976 mix is included, as are a bunch of instrumental outtakes. Vinyl, CD, Blu-ray - the lot. Essential.
