Laura Nyro – New York Tendaberry

Bought a sealed 1969 original recording of this record, it had a nasty old paper sleeve. Threw the record into the Hummin Guru and this thing plays like a new 180 gram pressing. The pressing is so quiet and the music is crystal clear, no noise of any kind even in the quietest parts of this record. This has to be one of the coolest records I own. Laura sounds out of this world and the piano sounds like its in the same room. Just got introduced to Laura at 66 years young and I absolutely love this record.

This is my recollection. Owned a copy with the alternate cover in the 70s and it most definitely was a repress as the Columbia logo/lettering on the label was exactly the same as this one and not the 60s one with the "Stereo"-arrowed logo. Now, about the cover tech details: it was a tip-on, no "for governmental sale only" embossed mark in the back, no front sticker, and if my memory is not playing tricks on me the Columbia cat. number on the upper left part of the sleeve had a small, transparent sticker covering up the old cat. number with a new one. To the best of my recollecting capacity, record was bought sealed, it came with no booklet but, interestingly, had a plain paper inner sleeve. Please bear in mind that, at least in my experience, all the Columbia records bearing the golden "Govt" stamp on the back used to be sold sealed but with no inner sleeve whatsoever, so this is consistent with the missing "Govt" stamp. This should give credit to the theory that Columbia must have run short of official sleeves for their repress and used some leftover old ones from the discarded first design. All in all a magnificent album with a magnificent design, in both cases.

Maybe I got lucky? Quiet Pittman 1st pressing with great dynamics.

Record is warped. Does not affect play. That's good enough for me. Sound is tinny lacking base. I paid $64.99 not too bad. But I don't think this has audiophile quality. I noticed more of a difference in sound with Eli possibly because of the horn arrangements. A audiophile version of More than a New Discovery would also be nice. And of course we need the same with Christmas and the Beads of Sweat

This sounds great. Don't bother trying to find a great pressing on vinyl. I have a bunch of different vinyl pressings this sounds better than all of them

Anyone with a copy of the alternate cover in very good condition I will pay a big price nyjeffy1967
