Universal Energy, the title track, is a superb slice of late 70's Space Disco.

Featuring an instantly memorable riff and a unique chanting chorus along with smooth backing strings, it's very much of its time and all the better for it.

Space Energy is quite a different kettle of fish, though. Clearly the producers were listening to Albedo 0.39 by Vangelis. It's very dramatic, and quite daring in execution. However, while the actual technical production can't be faulted, it ends up sounding incredibly bloated and self-important.

It's actually quite painful to listen to.

On the b-side there is Disco Energy, and thankfully we're back to the dance floor. A soaring, raw synth lead combines effortlessly with peak-time funky Disco. It's an epic track, but unlike Space Energy it's never pretentious.

Then we have Christmas For Space. Oops, spoke to soon. Back to the cringey slow balladry. Every Space Disco act seemed obligated to put this kind of shit on their albums (Space themselves are major culprits).

Finally, there is a reprise of Disco Energy. It drops the main synth lead and just trundles along for a few minutes.

Honestly, forget this and just get Universal Energy instead. The two essential tracks on 45rpm 12".

That's all you need.
