Peter Tosh – Equal Rights

Even by MOV's lofty standards this is a superb reissue. Two perfectly pressed LPs, magnificent remastering from the OrG tapes and the sound and quietness to match any audiophile one step or uhqr sillyness. And this is £23. I guess a gatefold would have been nice so its a 9/10 but its pretty churlish to complain when the records are so good. Buy with confidence!

MOV are generally just alright, this is excellent! Great remaster on the album, exceptional sounding vinyl. The quality on the dub tracks is not as good but worth having.

Can't comment on the SQ of the bonus tracks as they're all new to me, but Mark Wilder did an excellent job and this is the best the album's ever sounded in the digital-era. It's even better than Chris Athens's mastering from the late '90s - comparing the two, there are a few tracks (like "Stepping Razor") where it sounds like Athens muffled the top end when you listen to something like the high-hat whereas Wilder left it alone, allowing those elements come in crystal clear. A shame this reissue hasn't been brought back into print, it has a much more natural and balanced sound.

This is a terrible pressing with lots of clicks and unwanted background noise. Opposite of a quiet pressing, only quiet is the volume level of the sound. Don't get this pressing it sucks.

This is a beautiful sounding and very well presented reissue of Peter's classic "Equal Rights!" The remaster is very well done in my opinion and sounds clearer and more defined than I remember the album sounding on previous releases, though of course that may be subjective. Either way, the music sounds great and the extra LP of dub versions is a very welcome surprise for me! The jacket and several informative inserts looks great as well, I believe one is the original credits insert while the other is updated with more information and includes the dub versions. Also a great photo of Peter on the one side! Very well done, highly recommended from me!

A brilliant, classic, essential roots LP, full of thought provoking protest songs. It's still so, so relevant in today's troubled times. It's hard to pick a favourite, but, I always, always look forward to the opening chords of "Downpressor man" and play it as loud as my system will allow, be it indoors, car or portable sound system. I really looked forward to the newly remastered double LP, just for the "Dub" versions so that I could mix and extend "Downpressor man" and all of the other masterpieces on this LP. To say I was a bit disappointed with the "Dubs" is a massive understatement. I was expecting King Tubby, Scientist or Prince Jammy style dubs, instead I got what I can only describe as "Minimal", "Stripped Down" mixes that didn't resemble any of the classic dub techniques that this LP warrants. These mixes were done in a "Minimal, stripped down, German techno" style. Not happy. I hope that one of the Dub-Masters, Lee Perry, Scientist, Jammy, Mad Professor gets a whiff of my discontent and puts this classic LP through the mixing desk dub shredder and delivers the classic that is quite obviously waiting to be delivered. I can only live in hope because I haven't got the "Know-how", but rest assured, if I did, I would sort it out tomorrow.
