"First Time On CD-Single - Original Version From 1981".
Well, not really...:(
As a matter of facts, the full-length original version has still not been released on CD in 2018 when I'm writing this, and probably never will be. Here is the story.

This CD single contains a 9:46 edit of the original 12 inch version, which runs 11:30. The following three sections featured in the original Dutch CNR 12 inch version (151.028) are missing:

A: from 1:46 to 2:22 (36 seconds), a drum pattern with two dubby vocal lines and the introduction to "Funkytown".
B: from 2:49 to 3:41 (52 seconds), two songs not credited on the record, the first of them being a reworking of S.O.S. Band "Take Your Time (Do It Right)"
C: from 3:57 to 4:13 (16 seconds), the intro of "Video Killed The Radio Star" runs 16 bars on the original and only 8 bars on this CD single.

Add it all up and you get yourself 104 seconds of missing song material.
Subtract this from the original 11:30 and you will end up with a 9:46 version.
This is the version that pops up on all compilation albums that claim to feature the original version.

I'm still curious about the background of these missing parts. What follows are my most likely assumptions; in clarifying the background, any help is welcome.

Edit A could be the result of cutting away a damaged section of the master tape, or making the track less repetitive. It seems to me that these 36 seconds were inserted to make the record easier to mix for a beatmixing DJ. All later "Stars On 45" maxi singles did not feature such a section and go straight into the action. So editing this out keeps the momentum going, instead of the listener getting bored and wondering about what comes next.

Edit B is most likely the result of a copyright infringement claim. On the original vinyl, the songs being used are credited, except for two cases. I don't know if this was an error in the process or if it was deliberately done so = "leave it this way, nobody will notice it" (until a copy of the record landed on the desk of Tabu Records' offices...)
If this is true, we will probably never see the original version appear on CD (except maybe for bootleg releases; ironically, this record was created as an answer to the original bootleggers of "Let's Do It In The 80s Great Hits")

Edit C was probably done to make the track less repetitive, but can also be the result of a claim that 48 seconds of a song were used, whilst permission was only granted for a 32-second portion.

I meanwhile found out that the version on the American release (DM 4812 or DMD 268, both on Radio Records) only runs 10:15. This is longer than the version on this CD single but not as long as the original Dutch pressing. I am not sure if this is a printing error or if the American version actually runs shorter than the Dutch one. Once again, if you know more about the background, feel free to post it in a reply.

This is more or less the "legal version" of a bootleg recording named "Let's Do It: Into The 80s Great Hits", which was made the year before under the artist name Passion and caused a hype on dance floors worldwide. As Jaap Eggermont would probably never get permission to use the original Beatles songs the bootleg recording was made of, he decided to use studio musicians to resing them. For the 12" release, most of the other non-Beatles recordings were also resung and a reference to "Beat The Clock" by The Sparks was added. The 7" release focuses on just the Beatles songs.

Nowadays often referred to as "Discobeatles", it appeared to be a worldwide hit: a U.K. number two (under the artist name "Starsound") and even a U.S. number one, 11 years after Shocking Blue's "Venus" was the first Dutch record to rank the top spot there.
A "long-play album" was recorded as well, on which the lead track contained even more Beatles songs.

The formula was repeated by Jaap himself with songs from ABBA, the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder and The Andrews Sisters. Other recordings using the same principle are Lobo's "Caribbean disco show" (using Harry Belafonte songs and another Dutch number one), Startrax "Club Disco" (Bee Gees songs), Goldie "On A Saturday Night" (also Bee Gees) and even the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with "Hooked On Classics" (classical music). Frank Farian also used the formula for "Boney M. on 45".

Parodies include Rubberen Robbie's "De Nederlandse Sterre Die Strale Overal!" (Dutch language folk songs with altered lyrics, another #1 and multiple sequels), Weird Al Yankovic's "Polka On 45" and Pingo's "Spass Auf 45".

Of course, Jaap Eggermont was not the first. Previous attempts of putting multiple snippets of songs to a disco beat include Ritchie Family "The Best Disco In Town", Café Crème "Beatles Disco" and Two Man Sound "Disco Samba" (containing salsa themes).
