1000 copies for the ‘Purple’ cassette...
4000 copies for the ‘Clear’ cassette....makes me wonder if those 4000 copies are worldwide, or 4000 for the US release...and 4000 for the EU release....and another extra batch for the Japan release....How limited is this cassette exactly???

My playback device is a Nakamichi Dragon (some refer to it as *the* cassette tape deck) which has an auto azimuth control and plays everything in the best possible way. This cassette is clearly badly mastered, louder parts are distorted (Pussy Control, 319, etc .), while quiter parts sometimes sound canny and thin. I don't know the original cassette, but this one is sadly not very much fun for the ears - musical wise it's great, of course!

What a terrible quality! Right peak full red, left peak too low

I still buy cassettes and have a decent deck for playback and digitisation where I can lessen any issues with various dials. This, the European RSD edition, sounds bad. As other reviewers have said it's overloud so a lot of the heavier sounds hit audio amber or just deep into the red. The problem is baked into the mastering - Pussy Control, for instance, is really horrible. The Estate have been doing some wonderful work with the archive but this is a disappointing misfire.

I am listening too mine now. Kind of midrange sound but I don’t know if I would say it was MP3 master quality. As far as I can remember, pre-recorded cassettes were not the best fidelity. I have only ever bought a handful over four decades. The tape shell does not specify normal bias or CrO2 or not, so I assume it is normal bias, which takes the fidelity down further. Not the worst sound, but yeah, it sounds like a cassette. I’ve heard better.

I haven't heard anything like the comments below. Mine seems fine.

The purple tape was only on offer from the Electric Fetus record shop in Minnesota on Record Store Day. I picked one up from the Minneapolis location but there may have been some at their Duluth location as well.

Was the purple tape edition available in the US at all? If not which country?

This reissue sounds like it was dubbed from a low res MP3. Guess the original masters were lost and they got the songs off a dodgy torrent site? If not then the person who mastered it is completely incompetent. I have plenty of cassettes in my collection and they have way more bass and boom than this tinny tape. :(
