Daniel Ibbotson, with his first and incredibly difficult to find album, New Stories nimbly achieves both deepness and jazziness. “Jazz by Design” starts off the proceedings with a beautiful opening salvo, and “Skyscraper Trees” throws in an unobtrusive rhythm guitar that lends the track some cred. “Escalated Bad Vibes” is a wonderful breath of atmospheric funk, and “Jigsaw Motion” streams in with crystalline breaks that eventually give way to a solid beat. The album prefers quiet moments of grace, rather than storming the dancefloor and that makes for a more subdued, home listening experience. “Street Life,” “Far Places,” and the second “Super Hi Resolution,” with their drifting, meandering quality, invite a sit-down approach. But for those who want to move, the first “Super Hi Resolution” and the title track deliver what you need. The album is an embarrassment of riches, well worth the hunt.

This is a classic release in my opinion. Every track is great. The mixture of house and jazz with ambient atmospherics works superbly. It’s a pity this album is no longer available as the record label went bust.
