An excellently produced reissue from the esteemed FdM stable. They always do things right. This package is spot-on, with the original album, plus demos, some new recordings, a DVD, a poster and a substantial booklet. Lovely sounding pressing too.

Ambitiously composed and arranged, no linear songs (verse, chorus, verse) as such but going off at interesting tangents. Reminds me a little of the Wil Malone album.

The concept for Fuchsia the band (and the music too) was born out of guitar player/songwriter/singer Tony Durant desire to experiment with writing “(…) series of musical themes, which start at a particular point and move on, without necessarily following the normal classic pop song format (..)” and “(…) making string parts an integral part of the song itself, rather than something added to embellish (…)” (T.D on the CD liner notes).
And he succeeded masterfully in putting these dreams into tape! The band has a highly original line-up: A nuclear male trio of acoustic/electric guitars, bass and drums plus a female trio of classically trained (“…and wanting to do something different.”) string players, two violins and a cellist who also played piano and harmonium.

You’ll at times probably feel their inexperience (T.D is the 1st to admit it) but the uniqueness of the sound captures one’s attention and some underlying naiveté , despite or maybe because of the production of David Hitchcock - Caravan, Genesis, Camel, Curved Air, etc.- only adds to the charm of the album;
The male vocals are not brilliant but they do transmit a feel of urgency (in tune I must add) in intelligent, often ravishing melodies; and the angelic female vocals(all three sing) duet with him, harmonize or sing lead, alternating vocals duties in different song parts;
T.D jumps from acoustic to electric (often double tracking any of the three possible combinations) backed by discreet but tight bass and drums and complemented by careful and tastefully arranged strings doing rhythms, counterpoint, doubling lead lines or soloing;
Dramatic or joyous or anything in between, a unique Prog/Chamber/Psych/Pop/FolkRock sound!

You are conflating an 'insert' (ie a commercially manufactured extra included with an LP) and a promo sheet. The Fuchsia 'insert' was the latter, accompanying copies that were sent to reviewers, and not ones that were distributed to shops. (It also exists in longer, stapled form.) Most Vertigo Swirl LPs were sent to reviewers with promo sheets; these are not 'inserts' in the manner of (say) the cutouts that came with Sgt. Pepper, so Vertigo LPs can hardly be considered 'incomplete' without them. Would you call almost every 45 of this era 'incomplete' without the promo sheet that originally accompanied review copies? I agree, certain inserts are quite rare, such as the Driscoll / Auger one that you mention, or Shirley Collins / Davy Graham, or Roy Harper - Stormcock, or the third Deviants LP, or Family - Doll's House etc. But those were all made for commercial, not promotional purposes.

photos of the insert uploaded as i just found a copy of fuchsia with it inside. everyone with the original uk pressing should check carefully inside the covers as the insert is very thin and can be there without you knowing!

ps incidentally the open lp by auger and driscoll was originally issued with a circa 11 inch square card insert, its documented but its very very rare, if only a few copies have it, should mention of it be removed and the insert just said to be promo only? no, its an insert. eg inserted into the sleeve.ditto fuchsia, it had an insert. if you dont have the insert, hard cheese, denying its existence wont make it less real, though it may ease the pain of an INCOMPLETE example.

re comment below, the lp certainly did have an insert, i found the lp aged 14 and lo, there was an insert. whether it is classed as being for reviewers or whatever, its still an insert. fusion orchestra was originally issued with a small loose sticker inside, and the lp by kenny had a huge sticker, my copy of nutz first lp had a card cutout insert of the front cover image with a hinged back so it could stand up on a desk, that was surely a promo insert, but such things exist, as do minor cover variations, printing colour mistakes and so forth, maybe the trainspotters will eventually document all that...eg even the first snafu lp has two different back cover variants...reviewers and pedants often miss glaringly obvious things, eg ive never seen anyone mention the jolly interesting fact that the first track on the wonderful dr z lp inverts the ten commandments and is thus technically a Black Mass making the lp blasphemous and even better...sadly my copy lacks the original " BURN IN ANGER" balloon inserts. meanwhile at 17 i saw a purple cover on fuchsia and it might have been a printing error, think about it, purple suits that cover more, and the purple is evident on the lips and dress...still, probably a printing error on an early copy, it was from radio norfolk so it was a promo.

It's nonsense that there was ever a lyric insert, and that misinformation should be removed from this listing. Review copies were sent out with a press release, as were many albums of the time. These were printed on lilac-coloured paper, and offer a brief history of the band, and details of the line-up. I've never seen or heard of a purple cover variant.
