Chiming in to confirm that this is a terrible pressing. Sounds very bad.

Mine is a German pressing (stated on both album cover and record labels album) with the same catalogue number

I'm not much of an audiophile (ironic, I know), so if I think a record sounds terrible it really does. And this record sounds terrible.

Probably the worst-sounding record in my collection. Do not buy this pressing! The album itself is very good.

Sounds muffled. As if there was cotton in one's ears. Are other pressings better?

My copy is probably German. It says Made in Germany on the label and GEMA/Biem. K 44239.

One of the very worst-sounding pressings of anything I've ever heard. Unlistenable.

My copy is "Made in UK", no WEA logo on labels. Side are numbered "SIDE ONE" and "SIDE TWO". Matrix reads 44239 A1/B1 respectively. "RAYS" is engraved in runout on side one. Sleeve by Shorepack. Cannot find it among the releases listed here.

What a fine album this is. Often overlooked when it coms to real good + important albums, that are gorgeous from start to finish, have a certain stand alone quality without sounding weird at all. I think this is what confuses the occasional listener most here. This record sounds so nice and harmless you could think you are listening to a Caravan album, but the more intense you listen the more rewarding the music and the songs get.
From the simply lovely hanky Panky Nohow over Tea With Graham Greene through half past france to the 'paranoid old movie queen.." on Antarctica starts here the mood changes from a tea time conversation tone to something filled with angst and paranoia. The music paints the canvas just perfectly - imagine The core of Little Feat plus the ever present Pete Kleinow taking care of slide.
The production by Chris Thomas sounds brilliant and polished like a Queen album.
Alll that couldn't lift this to Gold status or fame. More a footnote in Rockhistor, but it is music like that I like to revisit after decades to hear that they still have something to tell me. Checkit out if you
