@Groovemaster-DJ 'Brain Jones Sax absolutely hits the spot on the stereo mix' ? Bobby Keys, surely.

Total slap in the face to Kinney Corp UK as this, although not the UK 3 track maxi single it is Stereo and IMO leaves the UK pressing in mono on the shelf!
Just fail to see the point or need for the LH die-cut for the Japan market as I don't see RCA changers popular past 1962/3 absolute foolish manufacturing (Pioneer had really good Hi-Fi Deck out by then so a need for LH totally redundant and pointless!

IMHO great marketing gaff putting this out in mono as a single, It was their first own label etc, all that publicity razzmatazz etc this track only truly, like "Honky Tonk Women" only comes alive and kicks in Stereo

Brain Jones Sax absolutely hits the spot on the stereo mix.
This was and is a 100% pointless and needless mono gaff. IThe track was recodred and mixed for stereo at the time ready for the album, this was the tie-in teaser single and should IMHO matched the album release and naturally it doesn't and boy, once it's heard it shows, Miller made a massive massive mistake have this mixed down to mono and put out that way.

All the UK Decca singles had been mono, sonically, this would have been a massive raspberry in the face to Decca. Decca would re-issue "It's All Over Now" in it;s original stereo mix recorded and done at Chess Chicago, retro release "Honky Tonk Women" the same)

Bin this or shelve it for ever>>>>>>
The 2011 UMG retro RSD release of this IS Stereophonic, go listen, go enjoy! go buy!
This track was made for and to be heard in stereo,

this mono mix here is a damp distorted un-directional wash of confused sound, You wouldn't know Brain or Charlie was in there, it's a needless insult to the two ears God gave us, on the shock ending does Charlie hit the cymbal or not?

This is 1st UK Stereo release of of this 40 year old (foolishly mono) original
Note that UK EMI-Virgin contracted a stereo 7" IEP unpainted Juke Box pressing via Telstar of "Brown Sugar"

(only taken 7 years to get the sonics of this re-release confirmed naturally to collectors etc make a big difference to know if a not so/or at all obvious re or retro release is now a Stereo mix rather than an again Mono mix very commonly available and easy to find from the past, if so sought!)

UMG still have a very very VERY long way to go with reissue/retro Stereo over Mono 7" 45's

Again:-
The Who My Generation (where is that stereo mix done for a pat on the back CD compilation)
The Who Magic Bus (allegedly in the Track singles box set)
The Who I Can See For Miles (allededly in the Track singles box set)
Martha & The Vandellas Jimmy Mack (1st global stereo mix)*/Third Finger Left Hand *(master tapes lifted from the vaults, first ever stereo mix made, as astoundlingly due to Vietnam War this was never Stereo mixed but done for a CD compilation collection only, 40 odd years later where's the vinyl 45 UMG?)
Martha & The Vandellas Dancing In The Street
Martha & The Vandellas Heat Wave (un-edited)
The Spinners It's A Shme*
Jackson 5 I Want You Back*
Jackson 5 ABC*
Jackson 5 The Love You Save*
The Supremes Baby Love^

and so on and so on, massive massive market for re-release and retro 7" 45's in stereo
(* these were all released originally and retroly by EMI-Bovema Holland but NOT by EMI or later RCA-BMG or later still UMG Polydor-Motown WHY?)

There is a massive massive MASSIVE market out there for collectors so long as we get something new and not pointless same ol' same ol' that we already have and can readily get originals of. I was 100% convinced that this re-release single would be Mono hence I never wanted or saw a need to want to buy it again.
IMO The original release of this single via Atlantic was a massive mono gaff, it was the Band's first own label release and a massive belter and mono in 1971 why? Once the stereo mix was heard on the Album and the later "shades" compilation album it kicked the mono mix down the toilet without question Brain's sax solos come alive and hit you, In none of the bi books or on webs is there any explanation as to why this was decided a mono single and wash of sound and distortion. Real bad marketing mistake (bit like McCartneys personal "Get Back" mono mix # 2,750 pointlessly done in a deranged mental state that the globe suffered bar West Germany, USA and Canada who had it in the Stereo mix that had been actually paid for and ordered). Who was at that release meeting who pushed for mono? Jimmy Miller? Who and why? be really nice to know. Really glad retrospectively others and have seen different to that 40 year ago meeting and mastering session of Stereo down to mono, needless and utterly pointless.
Thanks for finally getting it right, just sack the girl in the UMG art department who did not do her job "is this still mono or is it going to be stereo so I can put this important collector;s info on the label text bellow the 200 digit catalog/barcode numbers"? Ahh go and have a fag and coffee not important, how should I know, the other line's going, I have to go just copy the original artwork, I need this on my screen by 4pm printers are waiting! 4pm Bye!

Just tell that is not exactly how it happened over in West London. How many people did not buy this sealed can't try before you buy single because they too had the mono original and did not want or need the mono mix again and did not want to take a gamble on the sonics., My guess is if, only 30% of the buyers are also needless anti mono re-retro releases buffs and want something new and extra on their shelves, like I am, I would say it was/is rather high, my proof is the number of copies still unopened and for sale on here!

IMHO a sealed unopened release is a guarantee and promise or nothing or can it ever be a selling point, why? Because quite simply neither the seller or the buyer has any idea whats in side the sleeve, is it even the right record, recording, is it damaged misspressed, labels askew, pressed off centre (swing) warped, scratched, broken,>>>>>>>>>> Oh I can't take that back>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>you;ve opened it>>>>>>>>>I can see it's damaged but rules are ruiles you have opened it>>>>>>>>How do I know that you have not done this>>>>>>>>>slipped a damaged copy you already have and swapped it>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>no sorry nothing I can do, you've opened it and broken the seal>>>>>>I can't send that back and get a refund or exchange>>>>>>You've opened it!

Fact or fiction? A sealed record means absolutely nothing unless there is a 100% guarantee that what's in side is what should be inside, there is only one thing in life that is 100% guaranteed and that is that we are going to the great record shop in the sky! The only other thing guaranteed is that this pressing of Brown Sugar is stereophonic!
Those that didn't buy because like me they didn't want to gamble, go get and enjoy how it was recorded, mixed and intended to be, God gave us two ears why?

I have just acquired a white label release of this item. It has been suggested that as it doesn't have the 'lick' logo present, it is a test pressing. Has anybody heard of such a release like this? Any information would be very much appreciated.

Why would anyone want to review this track, surely everyone knows how great it is ... just a mention then for probably the greatest live performance ever by Mick ... check out the video as performed on TOTP in 1971 if you haven't already ... "cor blimey" indeed
