raison d'être's later music all starts to sound the same to me; a comfortable and good sameness, but a sameness nonetheless. That criticism can't be leveled at his early music, which this record is a perfect example of. Dark ambient mixes with proto-dungeon-synth and emotive chord progressions. The production feels a bit dated now but the sentiments are eternal. Check out this one and 'Within the Depths of Silence and Phormations' for the peak of his early style.

As for his later dark ambient style, I am in agreement with the reviewer below me as to the quality of 'The Empty Hollow Unfolds.'

Another competent album by Peter filled with his trademark beautiful music that soothens the mind and calms the body. Still, experienced listeners risk being disappointed in finding the harmony and chanting a little bit on the predictable side. If you've heard the preceeding releases you will know what to expect, and demanding ears might feel better if led past this album on to slightly more twisted works like "The Empty Hollow Unfolds". However, this is an excellent entry point for those wanting to explore the wonders of CMI.
