Dumb Records was founded at the start of 2014 as an extension of The Black Sheep Cafe, an all-ages show space in Springfield that had been going since 2005. The Black Sheep existed from 2005-2018 and shows for thousands of bands from all over the world took place there during that time period - predominately (but not limited to) punk, hardcore, metal, and indie bands. The original Dumb Records location was all volunteer based and opened up in a space next door to the Black Sheep to compliment the venue and setup during shows - there was also a recording studio in a separate building behind both of those businesses. At the end of 2018 it was announced that Dumb Records and The Black Sheep were conjoining, and would just operate as one unit, "Dumb Records" at a new downtown location. The new location opened at the start of 2019 and has remained in operation every since, open 10am-7pm and with a recognizable giant green elephant right outside!
