For me this is easily the best GC compilation. Disco-Tech is second and Wet third, making the three albums from 1999 the best in the series. Not surprising considering that the kind of trance they encapsulate was produced only in a narrow time window between late '98 and end of '99.

CD1 has the better individual tracks, gems like Unity, Pulverturm, Sub-Zero, Happiness Happening, ICE 794, Revelation and Messages. However, CD2 is overall the better set because it is pure trance, unlike CD1 which has four house tracks at the beginning.

The flow of CD2 is more energetic. The mood deeper and darker. The sequence of the eight opening tracks is in particular superb. I remember listening to it for the first time and being awestruck. Then a darker and harder section follows between Firewalk and Suspicious Love. Finally, we enter the home stretch, the last four tracks from Gouryella to Liberta, where relentless energy and euphoria are delivered. An awesome climax to cap off a timeless album.

This is a definite improvement for me over the previous album. The music they have added was better overall, and the mixing was also greater. I felt like this album was more on track to what Gatecrasher should be like, with some improvements still to be made.

Unlike the first album where I liked CD2 over 1, I prefer CD1 this time. It starts with house music again but only lasts four tracks before venturing into some of the best trance I have ever heard! Track 5 is beautiful and lets you know how serious this is heading. Track 7 - I.C.E. 794 is sensational and one that I can never forget! Other highlights include Turn Me On and Happiness Happening by Lost Witness. The transition between those two songs sends a shiver down my spine! Everything from here until the end is absolutely fantastic, with no duds. Honestly, this is my favourite CD that the series has given to this point.

The second CD is good, but not as good as the first personally. I want to like this one more, I really do but there were some songs that just did not feel as memorable or exciting. The ones I did enjoy were Pure by Inflexion, The Living Dream and Touched By God earlier on. Later on I loved Paradise but that was really it, while Gouryella was also nice as always. The rest of it was just average to me and I honestly think Hear You Calling is one of the overrated trance songs in existence.

Bottom line, Red is a better experience over the first release because of it's first CD. I know many would disagree regarding my feelings towards CD2 but it is a matter of personal taste. This is a great album, but the best was yet to come.

Another gatecrasher CD I got 'lost' in. CD2 that is.
CD1 I actually found pretty messy, if I understand it correctly (as per the previous gatecrasher album) CD1 is supposed to be the warm up set. Which ..I guess it does an okay job at. The first 4 tracks feel very much on their own in style wise, after those tracks and the interlude of 'praise you'..ugh....it slides straight into trance, it's a much better album from here on out. Still, CD1 flips and flops between quite powerful trance tracks and very very mellow ones and whilst the mixing is absolutely on point it doesn't really feel like much of a journey, a bumpy one, perhaps. "Revelation" is sadly not the instrumental version, so it has that preachy tv evangelist in it, which brings that down a bit. Still it's chocablock full of a great tracks.

CD2 is again an absolute gem. For the most part it's quite a mellow mix of mature, laid back melodic trance. It's brilliant. Like the previous album I let CD2 loop all over again and listened to it more times than I can even count.
Barely a dud track on it I'd say it's on a par or even just a little bit better than CD2 of Black. I think there's more flow to the mix.
If they could have taken CD2 of both albums, that would have been a five star compilation!

Again like Black I'd say CD1 is like a 3 star, but CD2 a four or five star...closer to a five to be honest.

Black is the best and always will be, however 'trance' started way before 1998. this variation was faster and had more arpeggiated riffs in it, sometimes cheesy vocals, more commercial. Red is still great. the late Mariano Stephano's Vision Control is a masterpiece. that for me was what GC was about. the harder darker stuff.

Katcha - Touched By God is not the Original Mix but the Alfie Conn Mix. A powerful anthem and so underated.

What a review you have put there!
I could not have put it any better than that!
If you want a trance album that really does some up what trance was in the late 90s this it.
I do have preference with disc 2 though.
Absolutely epic. Mixed seamlessly. Always have wondered who mixed this piece of class.

Who mixes this? Same question applies to GC Black. Both are legendary CD's.
