- Update, i emailed them the question i asked about stock and they said 60 normal and less than 10 special editions
- Edited 7 months agoMentioned on The Podcast Years (2000, Episode 4) by Steven Wilson (linked to around 23:30)! https://youtu.be/QUxQSJCZOEs?si=27q_D9-QTRY4-JDe&t=1413
- Merzboxes left for purchase from http://www.extrememusic.com.au, 23 years on per Roger Richards of Extreme Music: "About 90 are left of which about 15 or so are Special Editions. They are slowly making their way into the world ;-)
As always, explore the music
Roger" - Should the "Special Edition" of this set have its own Discogs listing? I ask because, technically speaking, Extreme did assign a slightly different catalog number to it on their website (XLTD-003-L, though AFAIK, neither physical edition bears either that catalog number or XLTD-003), and it does contain additional items (such as the "Decomposition" 2CD set, which also has its own listing on Discogs at https://www.discogs.com/Merzbow-Decomposition/release/257645 ).
- Attention Merzfreaks!! I just purchased the special edition of the Merzbox via
extrememusic.com.au for $500 postage paid to the U.S. in July 2019. That's over 19 years since it was released and I was stoked to also find out there were only about 10 special editions left and about 100 of the regular editions ($450) left. The regular edition does not come with bonus CDs and a poster.
Party On Noise Lovers!! - here's a great resource for anyone interested in what this beast actually sounds like: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/phthora/the_merzbox__every_disc_rated_and_reviewed/
hails to this lad who subjected himself to over 200 hours of Japanese noise destruction! - Hey, this release is still in print and is selling cheaper straight through the record label than the cheapest being sold here.
I got a copy last week, you wont regret this purchase. not a waste of money at all. the book is amazing!
http://www.xtr.com/catalog/XLTD-003/ - I purchased from the label (Extreme) few years ago, totally worth the money, the music collection it's really complete and the book it's a mandatory reading, wonderful lay-out, cover all black with black ink.
I have the special edition, it comes with additional posters and 2 x CD collaboration, those recordings were made using EMS, artwork on the 2 x cd set reminds me to Pulse Demon design.
Highly recommendable listening of Annihiloscillator, Red Magnesia Pink, Rhinograndetia! just to name a few.
- Edited 19 years agoThis box set is one of the most valuable pieces of art to come across this world during the 1900's. No artist has come close to releasing a 50 CD Box Set.
The 1979-1984 era takes some getting use to as Merzbow likes to draw out 2 second loops for 10-20 minutes at a time, but the material is still interesting and the use of drums is noticed a lot in these works.
Era 1985-1990 show what was to come in the future of Merzbow as he takes his noise to a whole new level. Tracks start to increase in volume and the material becomes more defined.
Era 1991-1997 show us what made him a legend in the noise industry. Masami's use of pedals and other sound sources becomes increasingly more complex and the artwork shows that Jenny (his wife) has now become involved in his works.
The box set comes with a medallion that actually creates an illusion when you move it from side to side, very cool. This box set is a long listen, but well worth the price. As it notes in the Merzbook, you must listen to this from the first CD to the last CD in order to get the full picture of the legend of Merzbow.
