There really is no point in becoming frustrated at their attempt to distance themselves from beat music. After all their moves have always been extremely calculated, from their music to their PR and aesthetics. Their path has been shaping itself towards creating an album of "serious" music for a while now.

The problem lies in their lack of musicianship. They just don't have the talent and skills to pull off an album of this caliber. Thus, they resort to a formulaic comfort zone in which nothing really happens, for good or bad.

Anyone looking forward to a Eno/Reich/Glass/Morricone concoction of high standards is just putting too much pressure on them.
