- Edited 5 years agoI am an acid house lover since 1988. The Evil Acid Baron Show video, Armando, DJ Pierre, Kay Alexi, Tyree among others too many to mention from Chicago and London definitely converted me imediately to the new religion. So, i was very excited to learn the release of this new compilation project from THE man itself. At this time, it seemed to be only digitally released wich was a bit disappointing to me. Hopefully, this colored wax release for the Record Store Day has definitely motived me to hunt for one copy. A compilation to celebrate the sound of 1988 acid, i should'nt miss it...Finally, after taking time to listen the whole album i reckon the pleasure is well reduced.
However listening starts very well with 'That' side on part 1 black wax, 'Consequence' 's 'Touch' is the one that blows my mind, the one that has this raw, funky and psychedelic vibe i love so much. This one reminds me 'Dog Dance' from 'K Alexi'. In my opinion, 'Touch' is a futur classic. This is the only track of this side i give any interest.
Other side, 'This' of part 1 offers a nice 'Jack' track from Luke 'acid master' Vibert in the kind of late 80's UK acid tradition. There is also a remix from the track that started all, 'Acid Tracks' renamed here 'Acid Trax' wich is boring, far away from the intensity of the classic from 87.
The second Yellow vinyl offers too the disparity concerning the quality. 'This' side's 'Thousand Finger Acid' is the one wich works for me, with its melancolic chords witch reminds me an Inner City classic from 88.
Then, i jump straight to last side on K' Alexi Shelby's closing tune 'Kum Face The Music'. With it's unique sound signature Kay's touch is easily recognizable here. Whatever the acid bass synth used it is a top tune, a great nervous acid track to close this album.
Finally i woul'd add this message about last DJ Pierre, Phuture, and Spanky stuff : It seems something has been lost since they stopped making acid music with their TB 303. - Edited 5 years agoWow, I didn't see this one coming. Like being smacked in the face! The word "Acid" appears in 8 of the 12 track titles. DJ Pierre strikes again. Like it says on the jacket, "Acid will survive!"
