If you were to create a game about life in all its forms, where would you start? And what score would you deem fitting for that journey?

From the very start of the creation of life, there was also a sound associated with it. This is where Ben Lukas Boysen starts travelling.

As the title reflects, "Everything" is a monumental release. 4 hours of various short pieces, each representing its own set of emotions. Fear, wonder, hope, despair, love, and everything you can think of really. I have yet to play the game, but this album serves as an epic adventure on its own.

From the start, there is something undefined in the air. The composer takes his time exploring each sound before, he slowly expands the composition. Over time, the tempo changes, violins and other strung instruments come and go, and a soft wind blows over the orchestra. Shy piano keys are being gently pressed, like birds floating on currents through the air. As we reach "Eisenach", sadness is the main feeling I get. The following piece. "An Infinite Day" is hauntingly beautiful, with its large delays and very slow string companion. "Opening Light" has a piano touch of hope, while the strings merely weeps. The synth keys fades and reappears, like a choir of celestial beings drifting away into the great beyond.

When "Reaching Light" is playing, bass is providing the main momentum, while strings are playing about the melody, echoing and repeating parts of the piece. As the bass line fades away near the end, only the sole core of the sound remains, before slipping away as "Empenular" unfolds. The next two tracks are almost seemlessly together, and provides a nice, warm starting point, before the eerie tones takes over. "Kryssene" feels like a planetary adventure, a distant ship moving slowly between two horizons.

In "Human Array", the beat is back, in a form which reminds me of my earliest Krautrock experiences. But pretty soon it recedes into mere tics, and we are left with a reverberating echo and lenghty string drags to fill the gap. On "Glacial Sunbeam", the next track, it feels just like that. Imagine looking at the first rays of light peeking up above the horizon as the dawn breaks on an ice landscape. Shimmering, radiating heatwaves which wash over you and fills you with comforting warmth.

On "Still flight", an oriental sound is introduced, and "Euroma Opid" and "Growing Grid" serves as an interlude before we are placed on a barren landscape in "Valley of the Moon". We are wisped across the surface of “Roving Dunes” as a gentle breeze blows.

After the unsettling vague harmonies presented on “Seifreda”, “A Certain Light” acts as a puffy cushion to rest your head on. Light pads and metallic vibrations are ocurring slightly before they vanish into a distant echo of themselves. “Stone Pillars” continues the oriental tones, dragging their feet through an otherwise large an open scene. Like a single bass eternaly echoing through a marbled entrance to space itself.

“A Quiet Invitation” teases the listener into the uncertain dark space, accompanied by sudden piano notes which seem to appear at their own whim. “Lima Persodial” reminds me of William Basinskis “Disintegration Loops”, where a set of loops are being played away, letting the music dissipate slowly as it plays. “Emergent Globes” feels like an iceberg calmly melting and cracking away, yielding to the power of the returning spring sun. Cool at first, but after a while it starts heating, and warmer tones and wind leave the berg powerless to its own demise.

Near the end of the album the pace quickens, and the Krautrock elements return. the distorted synth tunes along with larger strings serves as a concluding piece of epilogue spanned across the three last tracks. “You’re My Everything” brings an element of playfulness into the mix, ending the album at a positive sound.

The more I delve into this the more impressive it becomes - don't turn it off before exploring the later tracks they are all phenomenal especially Glacial Sunburn and Growing grid to name a few. This will provide so much listening pleasure for many many years.
