Reviews
- Edited 7 months agoMy copy sounds very clean. Could barely even hear the needle drop. Sound is muddy at times but I know gizz sometimes likes to mix their music that way (like nonagon).
- My copy sounds pretty good and the vomit splatter looks real cool as it spins.
It was very dirty though. I took off at least 5 thick layers of dust. It's amazing how much dustier many sealed records are compared to the vintage ones I find. A good cleaning always makes a difference. - Poor mixing and the decision to split The Lord of Lightning between the A and the B Sides of the record both hamper the experience of this record. Being one of my favorite Gizz albums I am a bit disappointed with this pressing, but the music still shines through and I still enjoyed it quite a lot
- The "silent" passages are super noisy with bad pressing noise. Cleaned this 4 times in ultrasonic tanks that have done magical things for all my collection. Maybe I got a bad egg, but it's more a piece of merch than a piece of music.
- No problems with mine and I think it sounds great. Comes with a simple booklet with all of the lyrics, bigger than you might think it would've been. Nice touch.
- Even after proper wet clean, there is some noticable crackling and popping throughout, might have to get another pressing. Despite that the splatter and color is really cool, and the booklet is nice too. It's a shame the vinyl itself doesn't sound too good.
- I'm afraid I must add to the "meh" reviews here... Everything's great except the one thing that matters most.
I played the digital version of Lightning Lord right after it (stupidly) ended on side A; and it's noticeably better, albeit not much. I'm afraid they kinda just botched the mastering on this one, it sounds like... :-\ - Sounds fantastic. Vocals are crystal clear with clear instrumental separation. Great sound stage with drums and spoken vocals.
- Great pressing, no issues with noise. The mastering on this one leaves a little bit to be desired as it is a very fuzzy, messy album, even compared to some of the band's other outings. The tracklist split is also a bit of an odd choice. A bit of a misstep but a welcome addition to the catalog of pressings nonetheless.
- Hate to say it, but this version does in fact not sound all that great, especially compared to the Glow In The Dark one. Absolutely beautiful and fitting though.
Random factoid: The story books are very different between ATO/Flightless/Heavenly in terms of manufacturing but also layout, the ATO version has an added ochre tint (printed, not from the paper).
