Produced by boywonder Claude Arto occasionally helped by Jacno. Executed by MM. Loved by posterity. Bought by you. Hurry punky connoisseur, when the original pressings on discogs are gone these museum worthy Dorian Celluloid gems will be priceless. And rightly so. These electronic accompanied by brass session band clubpunk sounds are as enervating and will please the eager audience as much as the phenomenon that was the late Edwige Braun-Belmore herself, the enduring face of French punk and postpunk, pleased herself to deign the world with her delicately phrased cadences and soigné style. A Cocteau heroine preserved for alltime on her selfdesigned sleeve. A Warhol style New York based international party animal later on, as the opening track suggests, wherever you play this, Paris or Tokyo, it will always be a fitting tribute to the genius of French music and the greatness of Edwige and Arto, a then novel new 'nouvelle vague' keyboard king and Jacno himself, who produced the brilliant single, 'Disco Rough' (included here). And I urge you unreservedly to check his and Elli Medeiros' wonderful punk and later electronic new wave classics out as well. You won't be disappointed. Step back in time. The album is named after a top Marcel Carné old skool movie starring the glam Arletty, a kind of Edwige of her day. You will find you will be eternally welcome as a guest (visiteur) chez MM and their evening reception. I don't think you will want the night to end. Dorian (Gray) and Celluloid being the label names suggesting their soirée will be constantly reverberating just like the immortal resonance of this crucial 80's LP. Very inspiring to their compatriot Lizzy Mercier Descloux (who in turn they had been influenced by), her last two albums owing a great deal to the Mathematiques, world music was subtly restructured by often unheralded club experiments such as these. Nevertheless collectors and punk fans are rediscovering the unrepeatable individual charms contained here due to punk historians and the internet represented principally by such bodies as Discogs. Have it!

I agree with bimster14. This really needs a reissue on CD with loads of extra! Not just an other vinyl release.

An interesting 80s "cold wave" album from France. The best song is "Jungle Hurt", which features the most delirious string and brass arrangement ever recorded by anyone ever. Some of the other songs are "motoric" New Wave, but even then, there's sonic exploration.

I bought "Les Visiteurs Du Soir" back in the 80s, on the basis of a glowing review by Smash Hits journalist Neil Tennant. I hope this album gets re-released soon. It's truly a lost treasure.

Very precious synthpop sounds with catchy melodies and a strong swing feeling
