- "Dutty Rock", Sean Paul's second and most stirring work, was released on the cusp of an artistic revolution. Harkening back to an era of colonization and slavery, he suppressed all musical inhibition and produced a work of primal urgency, finding and maintaining a perfect balance between the beatific and the obscene.
Paul's legacy, however, is a dismal one: the clamorous sarabande of his finest work was soon corrupted by a slew of imitators. The likes of Shaggy and Damian Marley (the latter having no discerning quality besides his lineage) ripped Sean Paul's vibrant frolics to shreds and did little to piece them together.
Despite the brilliance that followed with 2005's "The Trinity", "Dutty Rock" remains Paul's (and Jamaica's) finest work.
