Reviews
- Everyone else has pretty much summed it up below me so I'll just say 2 things:
1.) Can't believe this was made in 1991. Atheama is so futuristic and incredible. And
2.) Can't believe Atheama is the AA track.
Absolute classic :) - The re-touch of Atheama made a few years ago by DJ Warlock named the Re-Trip is an absolute blast and is in serious need of being released. Best remix of Atheama I've ever heard. The addition of a TB-303 meltdown and thunderous reorganised hardcore electro techno drum pattern is an absolute masterclass, a proper remix without erasing the original concept. People need to give it some attention if they haven't already. Equally as essential as this original mega piledriver in my opinion.
Regarding Seance, I love this one. However, I've always preferred the remix which came out a few weeks after this one on dubplate, promo etc in late 1991 and was being played alongside the originals. The version with the Dynamix II sample.
To summarise my preferred choices:
The Original Atheama
The Remix Of Seance
In any case, all mixes were and should be battered to death as they are eternal classics that capture a point in time and create that state of mind lacking in more revered anthems. - Edited 6 years agoHappy -Hardcore (quote unquote) that delivered the aural sonic delivery that if you danced...You danced! 1992! Hardcore defined.. Happy (appy) , intense vibrant and intensley crafted... Confusion? Peace from the old nearly 46 year old git! Love the music! ;)
- Two big Hardcore slabs on this 12".
"Atheama" Is the standout track with its familiar samples - one for any Old School Hardcore fan. - It's hard to pick one, but Atheama could possibly be THE BIGGEST HARDCORE TRACK of them all. And Seance on the flip is brilliant too.
- this is a bad bwoy tune, specially anthaema, i remember this at telepathy at the michael sobell centre in 1991,absoloute earthquake, turbosound,in that gaf...this is one heavyweight tune, the drop on this is outstanding...colossal 5/5
- Edited 14 years agoNebula II were renowned for their hard & dark releases and there's no exception here.
Seance/Atheama is their debut release and the one that was played in all the raves in 1991 and the early part of 1992.
Wouldn't quite describe any of these two tracks as jungle but more of a hardcore techno sound with breakbeats UK style. I can hear the influence these tunes must have had on the development of jungle, in fact some of Nebula IIs following releases were more "jungle" sounding - but always had a major slammin' techno influence.
Seance borrows Stone Roses - Fool's Gold drum break which has been sampled by countless of other artists but works remarkably well in this stormer, added drum production with real beefy basslines, sound effects, well dark, psychotic mish-mash electric shock sound which is undescribable, and a chorus break of "Black Riot - A Day In The Life" sounding riff but much darker of course.
Atheama is probably the more well known of the two tracks though, and the one which was slaughtered by all the djs back in the day for good reason.
It starts off with the sampled intro bleeps from LFOs - LFO & A Homeboy. Hippie & Funky Dredd - Total Confusion, chanted vocal sample, before this screeching, chaotic riff & massive, and I mean massive, thundering, stompin' 808 break beat kicks in and all hell is let loose! Very busy track which doesn't let you rest for a second, played at peak time causing maximum karnage. Classic old skool which you shouldn't do without.
