- Wonder what it feels like to write this stuff, get all this music together, rehearse it, do the recording sessions, etc. only to have people complain about the inner sleeve and describe it (begrudgingly) as "overall a worthwhile purchase". Nice to see some folk enthusing about the actual music - isn't this what it is all supposed to be about anyway?
- Wish it was a 45, but damn is this a silky smooth half hour spin. A constant go-to when I want a morning spin to start my day. Sound quality is just right, and the message behind the album included within makes this an appealing concept piece. For me, this is more enjoyble than Kamasi's over the top, lofty performances on The Epic (not a comparison of the artistic quality bc each is it's own vision, but for casual listening this takes the cake)
- This is a fabulous record clocking in at over thirty minutes of joyous jazz, and a fabulous lush pressing it is too. Bargain priced with a download code and booklet included, so please no whining about the thin paper inner sleeve already!
- Interesting that this gets classed as an E.P. rather than an album. Guess it's a sign of the times, what with all these 79 minute albums that seem to be that length just to fill out a CD.
Years ago this would just be a normal album because it plays at 33 1/3 and it's playing time is longer than thousands of albums listed on discogs. Take for example Grover Washington Jr's 1972 album "All The King's Horses" - which clocks in at an almost identical playing time. - Edited 5 years agoGood pressing: occasional light clics and pops can be heard on quieter parts but not affecting the overall listening experience.
I bought it at 11€ which is a true bargain, however i would have been happy to spend a couple of extra € for a better packaging. The external sleeve is very thin cardboard and the inner sleeve is basic hard paper. The included booklet is very nice and i like very much the artwork. It would be great if it was a 12" booklet rather than the actual "pocket size" - Lovely sounding pressing. Sadly arrives in a poor quality inner paper sleeve that's not much better than stuffing it straight into the jacket. Music, as always with Kamasi, is sensational and the production is beautiful. Very organic sounding.
- Edited 5 years agoThe music itself is killer. Obviously wish there were more to it, but I think it's a fantastic batch of music as a follow up to the Epic. Seems to be a solid pressing. My disc is quiet, flat, clean, and sounds great. The only bummer is the packaging. The sleeve is fairly thin and flimsy, the black paper inner is extreamly thin and flimsy and the whole package doesn't fit very well together (the disc doesn't want to fit inside the inner, and the inner doesn't want to fit in the sleeve). Overall a worthwhile purchase.
